Pub Help for next week
« on January 25, 2014, 08:59:07 pm by thornabyred »
Evening folks, can you suggest a decent pub for next saturday.
I know the Beefeater over on Lakeside but from what I read on the Boro boards that will be rammed.
Is the Trades Club in Frenchgate any good?

Depends what you're after.

Trades Club is decent, but not much of a pre-match atmosphere.

Tut n Shive opposite the station is a good bet

Gatehouse (Wetherspoons) or Walkabout if you want bog standard footy fan pubs

Plough, Salutation & Masons if you want a proper pub

There are lots of new pub/restaurants near the KM.

The Cheswold is a Rovers bar, it's only a walk around the lake to the ground and a friendly place. You could consider Woodfield Farm or the Maple Tree, only a short drive from the stadium and both handy for the M18.

In town, I'd suggest trying the Salutation, Masons Arms or the Tut n Shive but there are no shortage of establishments to visit in pubcaster. It depends on what kind of place you're after but whatever it is, you'll find it in Donny.

If you can find it, the Corner Pin in town and not too far from the station but hidden away) always used to be a belting good pub. Haven't been there for a long time now, but maybe somebody else could describe what it's like now?

thanks guys, I am in Donny regularly for work but not had drinks there for years.
I know where most of the ones mentioned are , looking for a quite pint away from the large rowdy contingent that will be piling off the trains.
Looking like 3k plus next week so at least will be noisy at the ground.

Will do Bob .... its cosy bijou and stuffed with good real ale

I was going to nominate that one and the Railway (even nearer to Station of course) but the attraction of both of these from ThornabyReds viewpoint is that they are going slightly away from the crowds

Good Pub trail to the Ground Railway f/b Corner Pin and does any one know if the Fitzwilliam Arms is still open ?
Landlord used to post on here welcoming away fans. That could be a third stop and Postcode for this one would be DN1 3QR

If Fitzwilliam Arms NOT available try (Little) Plough first right next to Tut and Shive for first Beer (if Beer is the attraction). Most will pass without a second glance and go in Tut next Door.

Then try Railway back towards Station then Corner Pin then a steady walk to Ground

thanks Donnywolf, probably be the Trades club then the bus down to lakeside.
Although there a few old pubs up by the market I would fancy have decent beer. Always full of older folk, real beer drinkers.

Corner Pin is a cracking pub, probably my favourite in town (might be swayed by it having a dart-board though)! That and the Tut - but Tut is always rammed come Saturday and a few too many Scum (Leeds) fans frequent it when games are on!
