There is a myriad of tablets out there (apple, google, samsung etc etc) which one would you recommend.  WOuld love an Apple as all the review come out top but too expensive.

I've got a Kindle Fire HD which is ok, but to be honest I wish I had a different one as it is a bit 'locked down' by Amazon, you can only use their appstore rather than the full Google Play one.

My wife has got an iPad which is brilliant, but like you say they are very expensive. The best Android one is apparently the Google Nexus 7, and they have just brought out a new version so if you aren't too fussed about having the latest model you can pick up a previous generation one fairly cheap.

Having said that though, that new Aldi one got some pretty good reviews and is only £80 I think, but they did sell out in about a week!

I too got a Kindle Fire - but Mrs DW commandeered it - even before she had the Laptop prong trouble which is now resolved ok

Its good for reading Books of course and I have lots of games on it (Angry Birds is constantly on)

I get on the Internet ok and have loads of photos and other stuff on it. Personally I find it fiddly to type anything or click the links and have never managed to get a proper set of Favourites / Bookmarks for Internet browsing

For the money I would say it is 9/10 and it probably would get a 10 if I got used to all the other features that I presume are on there and unused (Skype Facebook Twitter etc)

If you root the kindle properly you can install and run the entire android system and google play store, although some of the Google apps (such as Gmail, earth etc.,) don't work.

But even in the normal version I find the Kindle FireHD pretty much value for money, I picked mine up for £160 and it does what I want it to do.

However the best tablet out there is probably the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 A much bigger version the phone but it does come with the S pen, which is a revolution of its own.
