Maybe I'm a little narrow minded but this idea of Gavin Baldwin's to create a casino on the Keepmoat site strikes me as being at odds with our growing reputation as a family club and our attempts to foster young supporters.
It doesn't strike me as an ethical activity even if it is lucrative

It won't be going on the Keepmoat site. And there's no guarantee that it will go ahead yet, Rovers have more pressing financial commitments.

Out of interest Weststander, do you also object to onsite bookmakers, concourse bars and the Belle Vue bar?

I've no issue with it. They have strict policies I would hope. And if it is a source fox revenue for the club, great.

Agreed, I'm uncomfortable with the constant promotion of gambling on the OS and on emails received from the club (do the club ensure these are not sent to under-16s?).

If a casino is not going to be built anywhere on the Keepmoat site (and presumably not at Cantley Park), then how would Rovers profit from it? Surely the developer could go direct to DMBC without involving Rovers?

As SM says, I'd imagine that any such development is a long way off.

Where then? That was the impression I got, along with a hotel.

Gambling has become a huge part of football, numerous clubs advertise betting companies, and there are endless gambling adverts pre and during TV games, I'd doubt an on site Casino would wreck the family club ideal.

You need government approval. Blackpool didn't get it so Doncaster has not much chance .

I think that was for one of the super casino's. Sheffield has 3 I think, pretty sure they didn't get government approval for those.

No. The Keepmoat lease consists of the stadium and car parks 1,2 and 3, plus the outdoor soccer centre. The athletics track is in a separate lease and is controlled by Doncaster Athletics Club.

There will be no hotel or casino on any of those areas. However that doesn't stop development in surrounding areas.

I was referring to Super Casino licence  that was blocked by Labour Party.

...I bet even then you would not get the right amount of Chips for your money !

Maybe we're not having a gambling casino. Maybe the plan is to recrecreate the authentic 70s Northern Soul experience.

So what's that got to do with a casino in Donny having to be approved by the government, and what happened with Blackpool?

I didn't mean anything more than that, but to stay relatively sustainable and meet FFP the last thing the club needs right now is to start to invest heavily in projects that don't reflect on the pitch performance. Let's establish ourselves in the Championship, and then speculate with our income to generate other funds.

I don't have any doubts that if the club feel it's the right thing to do then it will happen, I just don't think it's at the top of their list. Sporting Club Doncaster may occupy those spots just behind the playing squad and our ability to compete at this level.

Listening to the audio of the "Meet the owners", I thought Gavin was just using the casino/hotel idea as an example of the sort of development that could be looked at.

I didn't think he was saying Rovers had any firm plans towards this at present.

The point being that any initiative which added to the income of DRFC would be considered on its merits, once the club had sorted out the current position, where dependence upon the owners writing a cheque to cover losses every season is unsustainable long term.

Others might have heard it differently, I guess!
