These contract clauses...
« on June 24, 2014, 06:03:54 pm by NickDRFC »
Now, if the only way for us to sign half decent players is to say you can leave for free should be relegated, then so be it. However, this for me begs an obvious question, apologies if this has been raised elsewhere.

What about the other relegated clubs. Surely all of barnsleys better players (they have no good players, guffaw!) must have this clause, otherwise they never would have signed? And if they don't have such a clause, how did Barnsley manage to sign them? If they are on bigger wages does the financial oblivion that we would have faced had we kept Brown, Duffy and Cotterill on "Championship wages" beckon for our neighbours?

You could be right. I'm sure there's no hard and fast policy. Likely to be determined by how hard the agent negotiates and how long we are prepared to play a waiting game. If the manager wants the player pronto then we maybe more likely to cave in and allow such clauses.

Ever since the Bosman ruling it's been easier for players to leave . Contacts aren't worth the time it takes to make them. Deals are done to
Satisfy both parties but the club will have put this at the top of the page as having experienced that side only a year before . The only thing is this time a promise of higher wages for promotion is the carrot for the new incoming players.

Apparently Barnsley have offered their "better" players new contracts since relegation.  Not one has put pen to paper.
