World Cup Trivia

What was the last time that a player went from being third choice left back for us, to playing three games in the World Cup finals in the same season?

Sorry not answering yours but What team at this world cup is the only one to have all players from their own domestic league?

Call me Mr Pedantic, but was he ever third choice? He was brought in when Husband got crocked and then he got crocked himself, so we signed Stevens. He was certainly second choice behind Stevens but then he returned to QPR before Husband recovered.

I thought Yun was still here when Husband got fit but I'm usually one behind you on facts!

I'll reword it. Third best left back.

Have we had many other players who have played for us in the season and then gone to the World cup?

In 1958 Len Graham was named in the 22 man squad for Northern Ireland but he was not one of the 17 players who travelled to Sweden. The other five, including Len, remained on "stand-by" at home.

Dave Mulligan had left us by the time he was selected in the New Zealand squad in 2010.

I'll buy that. I thought he was definitely inferior to Husband and Stevens.

He didn't really play enough to judge him. He looked technically excellent though in what I saw. Fair play to the lad, the World Cup must have been a brilliant experience.

I thought defensively he was awful, with very poor positional sense for an international full-back.
