I thought it said build a youthful team alongside a few experienced players. That doesn't say they will all come through the youth system!!!

They want to build a youthful team that doesn't need whole sale changes year after year. It is Dickov's job to now go out and find those players.

Aye but he came through our yts system from 16 to 18.
The majority of those doing their apprenticeship will have come from other clubs at 16

The only way this plan will work is if it is properly supported and funded. By that, I mean to bring through youth players of the standard required means employing those who are able to spot talent, coaches capable of bringing players up to the required level, making Rovers more desirable for young lads etc. It's a good idea in theory, lets see. I think we have seen a few more experienced players come to the club in the last 3-5 years who were not up to it.

Posted this on a different thread but it is naive to implement a long term strategy on one of the weakest area of the club.

This is a decent strategy for clubs such as Crewe/Southampton who have a pedigree of bringing through top quality players on a regular basis. But what chance do DRFC have of doing that given that we have brought one player (Husband) through in the last 10 years.

Also look at Southampton now after they had a fantastic season bringing through some top quality home grown players, they have all gone on to bigger club's. If anything they have moved backwards.

Say we have a good season this year with the youth players but don't get promotion what chance do we have of keeping them? They will all be poached. Even getting promotion it would be difficult to keep them.

It's a nice thought but in reality it won't work unless you are a top top club

there is always changes to be made, if this was possible don't you think out of 92 clubs  some would of done it before
