I've got to say,  sat watching the Wednesday friendly last weekend it felt really odd that the ref wasn't reaching for the shaving foam every time we got a free kick.

I just wish vanishing spray had been around when Gazza was playing.  There would've been a cock and balls on the pitch in seconds

Great opportunity to do a comparative study. Do more free-kicks go in with use of the foam spray compared to the same level of football not using the foam spray. I'm sure someone at the FA is doing the maths.

I can't believe this hasn't been done before, such a simple idea.

Agreed IDM. And the World Cup shows it works. There was a stat on the radio this morning. Only 1 free kick was "tampered with" in the whole 64 games at the World Cup when one team tried to move the ball from the U the ref sprayed around it,  and the ref moved it straight back. There were zero encroachments by the wall.

It works. Bring it in now.

I personally hate it when the ref places the ball for the free kick, then turns and paces out his 10 yards and they move the ball a yard or two behind his back to change the angle.  Robbie Savage for Derby at our place 3 years ago springs to mind, the kitson!

Also Harte at Reading. Moved it about 5 yards nearer.

Such a simple solution. Why deny the ref a simple tool to make his job easier???

I remember seeing this in use about 4 or 5 years ago. I can't remember the tournament, it may have been U21 or similar, but I have seen it used before.

we criticise FIFA for dragging their feet before bringing in goal line technology but now the Football League needs another season to consider foam ha ha . .. wot a lot of old farts!
