Crazy Contracts
« on August 08, 2014, 11:19:55 am by Upton Rover »
With regards to Wellens and Quinns contracts, we all no that they have a release clause in them, because they think they are better than L1 (not) but why the hell should we pay their wages until the end of August. surely there needs some contract to protect the club, and not just players. if we don't turn up for work we don't get paid, SIMPLE Wellens and Quinn should do the right thing and Piss off and thus releasing funds for the club, after all they have both declared they don't want to be here so why stay! Even if they got a championship club, they both are past that, if they were good enough for the championship, same as Brown, Cotts and Duffy we would be kicking off this season in the championship. None of them will impress this coming season.

They're training though and it's PD's decision not to play them so they could argue they aren't doing anything against the terms of their employment. I agree it needs sorting one way or the other but until either the end of the window or another club coming in for them we're stuck with this situation.

I'd be interested what PD's thoughts are - does he want them to stay so he could play two (potentially) top L1 players or is he working under the assumption he could get 2/3/4 new players as well as extending Keegan and Wabara if they go.

Not disagreeing with you completely, but isn't it PD who is stipulating that these two won't play at present?  If PD was willing to play them, then they would be earning their keep (to a degree).

Plus it is only for one month - by the end of August they will either be gone or be our players free to play.  Both would be great in our team in this division, as long as they are motivated enough.

A lot of spite in that post, and probably rightly so, but Wellens is a Championship player without doubt. He oozed class last year. Quinn was solid and i still think he would get in some of the bottom teams starting XI.

For me the best scenario would be for Quinn to leave as we have Wabara and Copps who can play RB. His wage be used to get Keegan and Wabara extended and no one to come in for Richie meaning he has to play at the reduced rate.

Is Quinn training? It certainly appeared that he wasn't at the start of pre season.

If I just decided I didn't want to go back to work after a break, I am pretty sure I wouldn't be paid and I would face disaplinary action.

Although we obviously don't know if that has happen.

I don't see Quinn ever playing for us again but I also feel that neither will get the move they want until the last days of the window. It will free money but leave us little time to do any business.

I'm only going on a tweet from earlier in the week (I think from one of the FP journos) that said they were both in training but not considered for selection.

I don't work in HR, so I don't know the intricacies of payroll in a company of Rovers' size.

I imagine that Quinn will be getting some hefty fines after not turning up (something I doubt the club would publicise). Surely it's a breach of contract though if they don't turn up? Grounds for dismissal?

Would have thought not showing up for training at the start of pre-season would be a case for dismissal, especially with it being the second year.

Mind you, if there were clubs interested surely they'd have gone already?

The players we will be signing will be free agents anyway so we can sign them outside the transfer window.

If they're training then PD can't afford (no pun intended) not to play them. We don't have the luxury to say "Their attitude has been appalling therefore they won't be considered for selection", if we're paying them 'top whack' until the end of August, let's get our money's worth out of them before they p*ss off. At worse, the supporters will be able to let them know what is thought of them should they not be seen to give 100% on the pitch.
