Those who went yesterday
« on August 10, 2014, 09:51:46 am by jonnydog »
Just wondering if anyone who went could give a brief summary of how each member of the team played both as individuals as well as a team?

Also, did it look like we had gelled in a very short space of time?

Steer- didn't have much to do but looked composed
Wabara- positioning in the 1st half was pretty poor defensively but looked ok going forward
McCollough- I actually thought he looked quite nervous and shaky
Jones- dealt with things at the back. We need to keep him fit
Evina- made some crucial interceptions at the far post, looks good
Coppinger- played well always a threat to the opposition but doesn't look match fit
Furman- solid game played much better than Keegan
Keegan- weak link for us I thought he was really poor (despite a 3 nil win!) the game passed him by
Forrester- again always a threat could be key this season
Main- looks a real good prospect and would cause any defence problems with his constant running
Tyson- played well and ran the channels well but finishing needs sorting

Wabara made some good tackles in the second half, put his body on the line on a couple of occasions
McCollough had a steady game IMO, in fact, the whole defence had a good game until Hayter came on, then they did look a little shaky

I'm not Wabara's biggest fan but I think he did okay yesterday, he made a couple of important challenges when they were looking dangerous and put himself about. He did get caught forwards a couple of times but on the whole I think he shows more promise in this division than the Championship.

I don't think we were as dominant as the score line suggested, Yeovil had us on the back foot a fair but but we dealt well with pretty much everything they threw at us but they looked pretty poor themselves.

Steer didn't impress me against Rotherham but he looked a completely different prospect yesterday, he was composed and comanded his area for the most part.

I love that we were attacking at pace, when you have a player like Forrester in your team, the pace that Evina, Robinson, Tyson, Wabara etc bring is going to cause teams real problems as we saw yesterday. His vision is fantastic and I am really looking forward to seeing him shine this season.

All in all, we did what we needed to do to get 3 points on the board which was pleasing, however, I don't think people should get carried away too much just yet. Yeovil didn't offer much and we have practically no strength in depth whatsoever. That 11 will do well, but to make a real push, I still think we are a bit short.

For those who went what were your opinion on Tyson vs Theo (when he came on) in terms of performance ?

I think Tyson offers more to the team than Theo does.

Theo's a lot more of a goal scoring threat though. Tyson's pace creates opportunities for others but don't expect him to get many at all.

Tyson needs a few goals himself to get a bit of belief back and then he will be fine imo.

Amazed that the op says Furman had a solid game. De Val looked a far better player in the short period of time he was on in my opinion.
I would like to see PD start with De Val against York instead of Furman and see how we get on.

Just watched the highlights on Player. Three very good finishes. Lots of pace and confidence. De Val's tackle and ball for the third was top notch. He could be THE revelation this season.

I'd agree with this. Theo is all energy and no direction. Tyson knows what he is doing but has barely played in last few years so is still rusty. Good early understanding with Main I thought.

It's a funny debate this one regarding Theo and Tyson. As people say, Tyson offers pace and direction, causing issues for defenders (More than Theo does.)

However, Theo scored, which is what you want your strikers to do.

It's not so much an argument but it's nice to actually be able to debate which of the two will be better rather than who's the less s**t of the strikers we have at our disposal.

It's early days but all of the strikers have a big role to play and I reckon they'll all get their fair share either starting or coming off the bench because that pace could be devastating to some teams.

Had Tyson been a bit greedier in the first half and gone for goal instead of trying to pass to Main he would could have scored himself.

Also when he was through with a clear run on goal and was fouled he possibly would have scored.

That was the incident when the garbage homer of a referee totally bottled it and gave the defender a yellow card and not the red he should have got.

How could he not red card him? The defender was by 10 yards clearly last man and he brought down Tyson. Any amateur refs on here can explain how he could only book him and award free kick, rather than send him off?

I can answer that one quite easily.

The ref was a homer.

It wasn't a "clear" goal scoring opportunity. He was 35y out and running away from goal. We should have had a penalty though. As for Theo vs Tyson, Tyson is more a worker and a channel runner than Theo but Theo will score more goals.

Running away from goal?? He was running directly towards goal, and no other defender had a hope of getting near him. Definite Red.

Tyson v theo just be glad they are both our players can you imagine playing against one for 65 mins at full pelt only for the other to the come of the bench, also while dealing with main, forrester and copps also bennett and de val. These poor defenders ha ha
