On a detail so basic as who is the designated penalty taker it was inexcusable that it should happen even once, managerial ineptitude of the highest order.
But then for it to happen the very next time we get a penalty shouts out loud and clear where the problem is.
Certainly, you would expect the captain to intervene and insist the manager's orders be followed.  The fact that he didn't says either he was a poor choice for captain or there were no such instructions in the first place.  Either way...   time to go Mr Dickov.

You may get your way with the Dickov out campaign but we will not seek any further than Rob Jones as a replacement in the current climate and ' club culture'

In his interview, Dickov said 'we peppered them'
Says it all really. Totally deluded

Well the Under 21's are more entertaining then the first team so it'd be an upgrade.

and that would be a disaster.

What was PD's game plan yesterday? Can someone enlighten me cos I'm blowed if I could fathom it.

Why did he take Main off on 87 minutes then push McCombe up to play centre forward?

Why did he leave it so late to bring Bennett on? I thought the best way to play against 10 men (for 28 minutes in this instance!) was to stretch them, play with width, Bennett on one side Copps on the other I would have thought was the way to go, the sooner the better.

At one of the many 2nd half corners we had, Main picked the ball up near the corner & looked around for 'a regular' corner taker to take the ball, but had to place it in the 'arc' & looked to all intents & purpose as if he was 'stuck' with taking it himself (our number 9!) before Copps eventually trotted over. Dear me, it was like watching a kick about in the park where anyone has a go at everything (including taking penalties) because you're just a bunch of 'strangers' with a football, but no manager, coach or captain.

Sheff Utd are not a good side IMO, they will still be in this division next season.

If you think that we've gone onto the pitch without a designated penalty taker, you will be very mistaken. However, if some Prima Donna has over-ruled that on the pitch, there is not much that the manager can do at the time. I suspect there will have been one or two almighty bollockings handed out in the changing room though.

Then if you're right Billy, given the all too recent identical example for anyone to have been in any doubt as to the manager's expectations.  Yesterday's culprits should be fined.

There's been a qualitative change in the tone of these threads this last few days. I hope PD reads this board because once any manager loses the fans, his days are numbered. He's teetering on the brink now irrespective of what you, me or anyone else thinks. If this goes on another month without either some wins or a P45 or two, the attention will shift from PD onto the failure of the Board to take action. And that is the one thing our current Board really cannot afford to allow to happen.

Without a few wins and a decent performance or two this looks like the beginning of the end to me now.

The owners have shown a lot of loyalty to Dickov, sticking by him after relegation, and giving him resources to improve on what he had to work with. The truth is that some of his choices have been poor, and at some point a line has to be drawn.

Losing to Weston would see him out, but assuming we jump that hurdle then he probably has until December to liven things up.

Any change would need to allow a new boss to see what he had to work with, and offer the chance to make changes in the January window.

I don't know what the contract position of PD and his coaching staff is, but if they need to be paid up on contract then new staff is an additional expense to consider.

I've said before that we need to be assessing managerial performance over the long-term and not on knee jerk basis after a bad result or performance. Let's judge our manager against these:

- Do we have more good performances than bad?
- Is there any evidence of consistency in performance?
- Are players improving, getting better on an individual basis?
- Is there a cohesive team spirit and a clear approach to setting up the team?
- Is he respected by supporters?

Well, that's conclusive then. Five emphatic no's equals TTFN don't it?

There's something very odd going on with the Rovers under Dickov.

I'll put my hand up and admit that family and work issues have kept me away from many of the worst matches this season, especially at home, so maybe I've got a rosier impression that most.

But I've been to two of the last three away games (Scunny and Bradford). Both times, we have had an injury-hit squad. Both times we have shown bottle and skill to come from behind and take thoroughly deserved victories in local derbies.

I've come away from those games thinking that we look every inch the sort of team that can challenge for the play-offs. Not a team to dominate this division, but one to be feared and respected.

And then we go and put in the sort of home performances that we've been seeing for that past 8-9 months. I really, really don't understand the discrepancy here. The approach that grabbed the Scunny and Bradford games by the scruff of the neck and comfortably won both is not the one that we are seeing at home month after month.

Any ideas where the difference is?

Good player doesn't translate to good manager. I think this is the case. PD obviously reads the game. He's not daft and is quite honest in interviews. He's likeable but something is not connecting in that transition to manager.

I'm starting to think it is time for a new face (no Saunders jokes please). Sad to say but I fear, true. Is give Rosler a go.

Forrester and Tyson dropped tonight. Says it all. I hope both of them have got burst ear-drums.

I think Tyson being left out is more to do with him being injured

Ok. Although as a senior pro, he should not have allowed a young flash t**t to take the ball off him for the penalty
