Interstellar

It's not often these days I see a film that really impresses me but this one really impressed me.

What a refreshing change to see a film jam packed with action and CGI that still has a plot and character. For me though the star of this film is really Hans Zimmer, the soundtrack is stunning. How best to put across intense emotions amongst the massive canvas of outer space. How about playing a church organ so loud the pipes are rupturing over sweeps of techno. The way Christ Nolan uses it is f@cking awesome. If there is one film worth seeing on the big screen it's this, you need to, to fully appreciate the vistas of outer space and alien landscapes and the thundering soundtrack.

For me Christ Nolan is now right up there with Kubrick and Ridley Scott, the bloke is an artist. Despite some of the plot being a little contrived, it has to do it to pull the whole thing together in the space of two and a half hours, there's no doubting this film is a bona fide classic.

I have changed my opinion of this film a bit since speaking to a friend. He pointed out some glaring errors and inconsistencies with the science and engineering. Some of it is obvious when it's pointed out, you don't need to be a scientist to understand some of the mistakes.

That said I still think from a artistic view point it's still a good film. Nolan says it's the best combination of image and music he's ever created and I agree with that.

It's just such a shame he wasn't more rigorous in getting the science right. I think it could have been an even better piece of work.
