Not the most inspiring signing after having SJ on loan here. But i suppose he is a tough act to follow

Think he will be ok,unless we take a chance on a young loan player I doubt we could get any better

Happy with that.  Experienced and solid enough.

I think he's a bit of a calamity keeper but let's give him a chance.

Well, we now have a 'keeper who will be with us until the end of the season for definite. That's a major plus as far as I am concerned.

Decent enough signing in my opinion. Better than an inexperienced loan player to be fair

Why only a short term deal, what happened to consistency, sustainability and not building a new squad every pre season?

The board tell us one thing and do another.

Don't forget agents are involved too, plus we may want to keep our options open?

http://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/sport/doncaster-rovers/doncaster-rovers-stephen-bywater-will-tell-it-as-it-is-after-sealing-rovers-move-1-7053362

"Dickov indicated he hopes to extend Bywater’s stay beyond the initial end-of-season term"

What's the problem with that?  So where does "The board tell us one thing and do another" come from?  You got an agenda there??

No, just saying the board bleet about consistency and sustainability, but sign players on short term deals  :headbang:

Razak too - if he signs

How long are Butler's and McCullough's new contracts?  Disgusting that our board has sanctioned 2 and 1/2 year deals eh?

Given that the GK situation has been imposed on us short notice, perhaps Bywater's initial period is to see how he fits in?

Whats the problem here boomstick...Sometimes you just bang the same old drum...and its us who are then banging our heads against a brickwall...If he would have been a rated, young keeper with potential then yes a 2 or 3 year deal....But he's not is he?? He will be a good keeper coming to the end of his career and a free transfer now...No sense at all in going straight in with a 2 year deal.....
And before you come back with why didn't we buy SJ...I don't care how good you are.... in league 1 clubs have no sanity offering a million plus for anybody...

as you said to me

Bla bla bla,
Shut up and get on with it.      ;)

accept the decision to sign a decent Keeper,  it just might have been Bywater who would only sign short term and nowt to do with the club

Good signing for a League 1 club if u ask me! 6 month contract seems very sensible as well to see how he fairs in our squad and if the impossible happens and we get promoted he isn't good enough for the Championship!

I think the £1M plus is what he may sign for after the loan...

I agree acko, and with Preston being his hometown club he is feathering his nest there!

Happy with this signing. Experienced keeper and a character to boot. Just hope he doesn't get pie thrown at him, could be another Dean Williams!

Just been interviewed on Football Heaven. I am not joking here. The first half of the interview was spent asking him about his days at Wednesday and how great a club they were. Couldn't make it up.
