Tomorrow's game in doubt? Not any longer!

http://m.stokesentinel.co.uk/Port-Vale/story-26057333-detail/story.html

Not due to weather but because of a dispute over police costs.

Sorry but unless there has been an upsurge in ticket sales, or if we have a suddenly bad reputation, then this should have been sorted ages ago.

I expect that the FL would come down heavily on Port Vale if they cannot fulfil the fixture for those reasons.

We're in great form, this isn't a sympathy issue for sickness or excessive amount of injuries in their camp.  we should press for this to be played.

The club should be pressing the FL and Port Vale for some sort of clarification in the light of this newspaper report

Good news. Sounds like a bit of brinkmanship has been going on. As IDM says, I doubt the Football League would have looked on Port Vale very favourably if the game hadn't been played.

I suppose we might have been awarded a default victory but that would be no consolation to those who had bought tickets and were looking forward to the game.

Port Vale have been having Policing issues for quite some time. Their game at Barnsley a couple of weeks ago was restricted and made all-ticket because of their rogue element!

That game was always going to be all ticket.  As well as Port Vale's issues, Barnsley topped the arrests league table.

I know it's a joke Filo, and I know maybe we should even laugh at ISIS as a matter of policy, but every time I see or read of those buggers it sends a shiver right up and down my spine. They really are one evil bunch of people those guys. They make El Fatah and so on look like jelly and custard. These guys are dangerous. Seriously, seriously dangerous and there is absolutely no prospect of them disappearing for decades (unless the Yanks have a very unlikely epiphany)

The game would never have been called off. The FL fine would have been massive and there would have been a points deduction.

I see Parma have called their game off on Sunday as they can't afford to pay for police or stewards

This will become more and more commonplace. Small shire forces like staffs have ever increasing demands on policing , less officers and a shrinking budget. The day the wheel comes off at port vale, and it will, the police will get the blame for not being there to stop it.

Whilst I was surprised at the amount of police outside vale park today, what would have happened if there were just a handful.

The police will always be there. They make money doing that. Quite a lot. Do you not remember the fracas with S Yorks police a wule back when, I believe, every single club in S Yorkshire refused to pay their bills they were so extortionate? That time it resulted in all kinds of threats of court actions. These days if the clubs refuse to pay the sanction is the cops do refuse to attend, the game gets cancelled, the FA fine the club and the coppers pay their overtime bill out of you and me again.
