Not sure the way they work points out is the best.. it appears the you get the same regardless of division you are in.., it should be 92 points if u win the prem, 1 for finishing bottom of L2, that way you have a god way of seeing teams historic finishing places...there is a website that does this.. the best stat on there is leeds in 20 or 21 place, just going to,show that their rightful place isnt the prem, but a yoyo team

I thought the 'rules' noted down there were that points are awarded exactly as they were for each game played. So 0, 1, 2 or 3 as appropriate.

What ever their rules are.. If man its have 6000 points.. Rovers would never have 4000..  2000 at best would be more like..

Pardon?

Sorry. I'm not being sarky. I really haven't a clue what you're trying to say.

Cheers

no offense taken bob..    in a nutshell,   sheff utd aint the 4th most successful team of all time in terms of the english 4 divisions..   unless a win in div 4 is the same points tally as a win in the prem...  so you could have loads of wins in div 3,4,etc.. and be in a higher position than say a WBA who may have spend most of their life at the lower end of the prem theoretically thus having less points.  after losing more than they win.

The other table doing the rounds is much more relevant to a teams long term position in the football table..  92 pts for winning the prem, 1 pt for finishing bottom of L2.  So rovers got 24 pts for winning L2 , but 40 odd for finishing bottom of the championship.  It the final league position of each season that gives you the points.  In that table rover are bottom div3/top div 4.  historically a yo yo club etc..   hope this make more sense...

Someone posted an overall position table in the old BBC 606 forum a few years ago, maybe around 2008.  In that, we were around 2/3 down the 3rd division, but that did not include the recent championship seasons obviously.

So on average we would be a mid/lower 3rd division side.

Ah. Ok. Fair enough. I suppose it just depends on what someone is trying to measure. Yes. A win in Div 2 is clearly not 'worth' as much as a win in League 1 od somewhere higher. But how do you alllocate that value differential? If I suggested adding 1 point per win for each league above league 2 for example, there would be a million  suggestions - all valid and all unable to gain any consensus. Lol. So i suppose this chap has tried to deflect that criticism by sticking to the standard formulae - with its obvious weakness!

Its success table relatively. That's to say points gained overall. Nothing to do with which league a club is in. Therefore SU could well be 6th . Also that's why Wigan are some distance back from DRFC ( played less games therefore amassed less points ) although for many years actually much higher in league than DRFC.
