Speaking as a non pro groundsman but someone who has noticed what effects walking on different surfaces has, why use such sandy looking surface and not something with at least a bit of organic fibre in it?
BRR for sports turf I think 5% is the recommended maximum fraction of organic matter. I'm sure there are other reasons for it but the only one I know for sure is that higher levels encourage earth worms and the casts they throw up to the surface makes for difficulties maintaining a quality surface.
Is it me, or is it greener on the other side?
