Tonight on radio dee dah
« on July 23, 2015, 08:01:59 pm by selby »
Dickov urging players who are out of contract, but have been offered a new one, to sign as soon as possible or be left on the shelf.
Is this a way back for Wabara,Furman, and Wakefield, personally I would be pleased to have them on board.
Paul must have wanted to keep them, or no contracts would have been offered, and all would fit in to the sqaud, and would now have to play consistently well to get in the team.

Of those three only Wakefield was actually offered a contract. The others indicated that they wouldn't accept if offered. They might think otherwise now, but the world has moved on.

More likely to be aimed at someone who is sitting on an offer from us.

I can see your point Askern, but all offer something to our present squad.
Wabara can play right accross the back four, and had some of his better games when pressed into it in emergencies at centre half.
Wakefield more or less ditto, and Furman has had his good games and cannot be faulted for effort.
Unless any new players are of a known better quality, why not ?as they have only tried to get a better deal for themselves in an open market, which they were entitled to do.

Red Baron I bow to your superior Knowledge on contractual matters,I thought that offers had been made to all three players.
Still wouldnt mind a change of tact though, none of them are poor players in my mind ,not yet great players agreed, but far from as bad as some on here seam to imply.

I'd give Wabara another chance. I think there's a good player in there.

Not fussed about Furman I honestly never rated him.

I think Wabara really improved last season and had a good season, I would quite happily have him back here.

Let's beg for players to return who got us to 13th postion because the right players cost to much money is not the way we should progress.

If you listen to the full interview he is on about any footballer in general (not just Rovers players) offered a contract should sign it as closer to the start of season players are having to reduce there demands dramatically to get themselves a club.

Bugger the fact that they had a look around for a better offer; if they're better than what we have or can sign elsewhere, offer them a deal.
It works both ways in football. Managers/scouts etc are constantly identifying players to replace those currently in the squad, and are more than happy to replace them given the opportunity.
I take no issue to players looking to better themselves, provided they honour their contracts, and do so in a professional manner.
Clubs are merciless when it comes to dumping players when they can attain a perceived upgrade; players have little obligation to their club, but a major one to their families to make sure they get the best contracts they can.

DonnyDave, that puts a totally different perspective on what is being discussed here so thanks for pointing that out.
I haven't heard the interview at all.

Personally, I really don't know what people ever saw in Furman. People mention his 'effort' was always good. Excuse me, but isn't that the minimum we should expect of an employee of the club!? It's certainly not a special quality. For the most part when I've seen him, he's been awful

Decent player Furman but not one to lament when departed. Yes he had a good engine and did the basics reasonably well.

There's no reason why Harry Middleton can't progress to fill the midfield berth vacated by Furman, depending on how PD utilises the midfield positions.

From what I hear, the senior players want PD to keep it simple and stick to 4 4 2 rather than tinkering with diamonds and Christmas trees.

Square pegs for square holes then.

The impression I got from the other night is to play 4-5-1 DBR

I think 4 5 1 would suit us better. 4 4 2 would bring Keegan's place in to doubt. I can't see him playing in tandem with Wellens the same as Copps played in tandem with Middleton the other night. They both looked comfortable.

If we were to play 4 4 2 then Wellens could play with Copps or Middleton but we don't have any other players on our books that are up and down midfielders.

Keegan would have to adapt his game quite a bit. The type of players we sign next might give us a clue.

I reckon Furman was our best player for the second half of the season, ie when he actually got a decent run in the side.
Wabara? Not for me under any circumstances. Not bad going forward, but absolutely hopeless defensively (which as a full back is a bit of an issue)

I thought Wabara actually did OK when covering at CB for Rob Jones'early season injury..

Furman loads of energy and enthusiasm, but not much end product, which was a shame.

Whatever happens with player ins/outs, we were inconsistent and mid table last season, so changing a few players can't do any harm.

Furman was a poor mans Simon Gillet. The only thing he had on him was height.

I would class him more of a poor mans Brian Stock. So many times I'd watch him and think, any minute now he's goner let rip with a long range shot or pin point pass like Stocky used to,but nearly always ended up disappointed.Difference was BS knew where the goal was,and if he did'nt shoot,he knew how to push towards it too.Furman often did'nt.

I desperately want to really like every Rovers player, but Furman never got my juices flowing.

I wanted to like him because he was honest, balls out, hard working and I like that in a player. But it generally stopped there with him.

His passes were less sophisticated than mine at the lasses in Denaby at chucking out time in the 1980s. And usually about as far off the target an all. And then there were the frequent instances where the red mist descended and he turned into Captain Caveman for 5 mins, kicking any f**ker inside the DN postcode region.

So if there's one thing I'll be doing this year, it's not screaming "If only we still had Furman'"

And here's a fiver says he gets sent off on Satdi if we are 2-0 up with15 mins to play.

Ha, that's like saying that any footballer with the ball at his feet who doesn't ping a 40 yard pass is a poor man's Brian Stock!
