New Season, Same Crap!
« on August 20, 2015, 12:42:06 pm by RobSlingDog »
If we are all honest, with all the signings this summer we all entered this season with alot of hope and expectation. Well 4 games in and I'm sorry it's all gone. Last night was absolutely shocking!

It just proves that PD just isn't good enough tactically. We set up like a away team at home hence why we seem to play better against better teams as they come at us. There’s no pace, no urgency, no creativity, no nothing. I feel very sorry for Mr Williams when he's got these clowns playing behind him. We should be beating Southend at home!

Doncaster Rovers are a big scalp in league one so teams are going to come here and sit in and play for a draw so you have to get at teams early with some pace, but no we just knock it about the back 4 and that's about it. But PD keeps saying we need to be patient?!?!?! If we are anymore patient we might aswell not turn up!

How we can say he's happy with his squad beggars belief, LM isn't a right back and proved that against Leeds, never looked too overlap like ATS so he offers nothing out wide when Copps cuts inside. There's no one on that bench who we can all turn around and say he could change the game, and if we are to play this 4-2-3-1 formation why isn't Harry Forrester playing behind the striker? The only player in the squad who can create anything?!

I think you could give Paul Dickov any players in the world and we still would be shit. Just proves this man hasn't got a hoping hell and needs to move on!

Your hope and expectations shouldn't be dashed after 3 games.. It's ridiculous
Especially when we haven't even lost one of those games

Yeah but you can see from his tactics it just the same. Not scored from open play in 4 games!

I have to agree with some of the posts on here, I was looking forward to this season after the near take over at the beginning of last season I though the signing looked promising but at the moment it doesn’t seem to matter who we have in the team we just don’t produce the performances.
We usually have the lion’s share of possession and but when you look at last night’s stats and see the pitiful number of shots on target there really is no wonder that attendances are falling.
Football is an entertainment; it competes with every other form of entertainment out there from the TV to computer games and all the other sports and activities out there to tempt us, not to mention how many drinks down the local £20+ will buy on a midweek night.
We haven’t ‘entertained’ consistently at home for a number of seasons now and unless that changes quickly the rot will definitely set in and the attendances will fall away undoing all the work gone on previously.
When the dark cold nights set in we need to have more than just our loyalty as fans to make us turn up week in week out.
Most definitely something needs to change and quick.

Stats when Dave Penney was sacked after 6 games.

W - 2
D  - 2
L   - 2

Wonder if we was to not win in our next 2 would that be seen as acceptable?

I always thought that Dave Penny resigned when his brother-in-law was sacked as reserve team coach. When he realised that their kid wasn't going to be re-instated he tried to rescind his notice but was told it was too late as it had been accepted.

Funny, but didn't we score in open play against Bury? Remind me, please!  :)

Ha. Not sure we can call that a goal from open play.

Hmmm, wonder what the score would be if the team Penny had, played the team we've got now under PD.

Penneys team should win comfortably, he spent a lot if money that summer which is why the beginning of that season was a disappointment. Destination championship, marquee signings every day of the week, all seems a lifetime away,
We can't spend money like that anymore

So many expert analysts. Hound said in his post.

I think the truth is that there are many expressing their opinions. I believe that we should have them and as on other threads it is said that people will not go whilst Dickov is there, again it is their choice. Hound I know will defend the manager and players to the end and that is his choice, but who is right??? Not for me to decide.

And this is not baaaaalocks.

If we had won two of those games one nil, the majority would be mentioning promotion, teams currently at the bottom could still win the league it's so early, as it is we are half way up, we never come from behind to win promotion do we?

Surely the original poster is saying that nothing has changed?  There's plenty on here saying "it's only four games", but if you read what's being said it's not just this season.  It's last season.  It's the style of play.  It's the totally dreadful sleep inducing home performances.  It's that the new signings were so promising but they haven't made any real difference.  It's that everyone in the world can see McCulloch isnt a right back.

For me he's just an average manager.  Not rubbish like some are saying, just average.  He's no gung-ho Penney, no pure-results Saunders and he's no pure-football O'Driscoll.  Maybe that's part of the problem, we're just like every other average team in L1 grinding out results and if the footballs crap and the results aren't there then it's only a matter of time.

We have been poor at home for quite a few years now, the last two seasons under PD, under the whole of the Saunders reign and during the last season and a half plus seven games of SoDs time with us.
We Rovers fans have probably seen fewer goals by our team in that time by any other home set of fans in the four divisions.

If the away performances and results were transposed there would be far less criticism. The majority of our fans watch us at home. A good away performance and result is great but pales away when followed by a poor one at home. Get the home form right to increase revenue. How much do we make on an away game? Travelling expenses or something towards it, that won't keep us afloat.
We have 23 home games plus any cup games and I struggle to think of more than a handful from any one season over the last few years.

i wonder why we have been so bad for so long at home under three different managers though?
Three and a half actually (no joke intended) if you include Flynns caretaker stint.

Some of the home performances under dickov are the best during that period,
Qpr, Blackburn, scunny, Leicester, if we've only had a handful in 4 or 5 years then the majority of those have come under dickov

Alot of the good home performaces come against the better teams, as they come at us and suits our style alot more to pick them off. But we are a big scalp in League One not many teams do that so we have to go at teams and we just don't and whilst Dickov has been in charge this hasn't changed or no signs or it. Hence why I started this post. As people are saying it's only 4 games, what about 46 games last season? and the 46 the season before?

We have been poor at home for years now.
Last two seasons under PD, the season under Saunders and Flynn and the last one and a half seasons under SoD.

We have been poor at home for years now.
Last two seasons under PD, the season under Saunders and Flynn and the last one and a half seasons under SoD.

So by that reckoning PD has been given four times as long as Brian Flynn and half a season longer than SO'D who HAD a proven record of not only getting results but doing it with entertaining football and getting his team punching above its weight.

It's difficult to deny that the only track record PD has developed in his time with us is that he can take strikers with potential or proven at higher levels and make them look like they've never seen a football before.
