Lund

If James Horsfield is an England international in his age group, why are players at smaller clubs such as Lund passed over.
I might be a little biased  but Lund looks a better prospect to me.

Probably because they are unaware of Lund. Whoever the u19's manager is now will probably attend the big clubs u19 games.

I think it is the way the Academy structure works now. It is assumed that the best young players will gravitate to the bigger Academies. Generally that will be true, but you will always get the odd one who slips through the net.

One thing people are forgetting about Horsfield is that he isn't a specialist right back and his first professional games were last week. By comparison, Lund is almost a veteran.

That's not attempting to belittle Lund, by the way. He is an exceptional prospect and he may well go further in the game than Horsfield, even though the latter has had a more "expensive" education!

I thought the premiership would come up,they have spent millions developing nothing.
The African countries have developed more premiership players kicking tin cans about, in old Man U shirts.
Get real we are miles behind, developing robots passing from fullback to centre half.

the international set up at all levels seems to concentrate on big clubs, the lad at spurs has played about 6 first team games now called up for england, would he have been if he stayed at mk dons.stirling called up after just a few games at liverpool.it spreads down to the younger teams at international level

So Southampton have produced no premiership players? Nor spurs?

Are people saying Lund is a better footballer than  Horsfield? Technically worlds apart in the small snippets I've seen of Horsey.

I think that technically, "worlds apart" describes the physical distance between Horsfield and that winger on Saturday. He might not be a dedicated full-back, but surely you'd expect a promising junior with Man City to have SOME concept of defensive positioning?

He's been found wanting, in every game. I didn't realise he was a midfielder though, it's not as easy as people think to change position, some players can play multiple positions most can't. No excuse for us playing him in a position he clearly can't play though!

He's a terrible right back, hopefully Lund will be back soon.

Posted the same in another thread BST. Barnsleys no 27 was quick but Horsefield gave him 3 yards start on innumerable occasions. His positioning was awful. And that's something you teach kids of school age. If he hasn't got it now, he won't get it. I do appreciate he is a midfielder, so let's give him a game or 2 in midfield, cos he's been awful at full back. Bet he had nightmares Saturday night

Keep saying this but after the Swindon game there wasn't any negative comments about him on here, people were saying how good he was.
Yet after 1 game where he struggled against a fast winger then he's terrible,

He wasn't, he was steady at best. The last 2 games he's been found out.

He struggled in the first half, was blowing out of his arse and was positionally awful. If that's not his position then fair enough but why sign him? As a right back he's appears to be nowhere as near as good as Lund.

Wasn't great last night but then again nobody was.

NOT to comment on that Barnsley performance would be perverse. It was possibly the most out of depth I have seen a player for us since 97/98.

The lad is not a specialist right back, apart from Lund we have not had one all season. The new manager must be allowed to sort that out.

Evina's not a right back but he had that winger in his pocket when he switched over to that side.

I'm not necessarily criticising the kid. If he's playing out of position, he's playing out of position. But if have expected some basic level of pace and positional awareness from him. He showed neither on Saturday.

No experience, Being asked to come into a struggling side, Not playing in his best position, Coming against one of the best wingers in league one against Barnsley, He needs encouragement.
Jones signed him to cover that position, Give him time there is a lot for him to adapt to.

That's b*llocks Billy. Dennis Souza is the correct answer to that statement.

The only Brazilian I ever saw who couldn't kick a ball or make a pass - absolutely the worst player ever to put on a rovers shirt, and that's saying something!!!!!!!!!
