Lovely ball played in from Poole as well. That story about their right back was great. Finishes mid week games then goes straight to work. He mullered Countys left winger a good few times as well.

Thanks Dickos. I didn't manage to see that documentary.  Wish I had. I'd love to know why they bought the place, what their objective is. It's hard to imagine them ever making much money from it.

Cheers

Thanks VIcar, Raven. I shall see if I can find an houur then!

And Hound: yes. I know they want to get Salford into the League. My question is 'Why??' What's in it for them? Ego? Money? Philanthropy? Gaining of experience and credibility so they can take over United when the Glazers stumble?

Bob, the only people taking over Utd will be FC United of Manchester.

Just questions Martin. Just questions. What is their motivation? Their objective? Without something sensible it simply looks bizarre.

Maybe they are seeing how far they can take them. Why does there have to be a motive Bob? Maybe after you have bothered to watch the documentary you may understand s little more.

That's botyh unthinking and unworthy Knockers. How do you what time commitments I have during evenings? As it happens, I have a long term commitment to ensuring a small boy develops into the cricketer that he can be. Much of the rest of my time is spent either doing housework, cooking and helping with homework, or, doing my own paperwork, accounts and commitments. What's left is spent on this keyboard. If you pay attention you would know I loath the dumbness of television. Why should I sit around watching tripe just to see the very occasional interesting programme?

And there does have to be a motive. If you can't see that then there's very little point explaining.

Just like you Bob I don't get the time to watch the box but on this occasion I did find time and I did really enjoy the Class of 92. Not only did I find it entertaining I have changed my views on Garry Neville and his brother.

I've spent thousands watching the Rovers in nearly sixty years.
They have a lot more money than I have and as five Manchester lads maybe just want to put something back into local football.

I watched that match in happy  awe and the most significant analysis came from Gary Neville " standing on the grassy knoll with a pint and supporting our club , that feeling has been lost in the Premiership experience."

That maybe the case Idelr. But how many people do you know who, from a group of perhaps a dozen, 5 are willing to chuck away unknown but large amounst of their own money on nothing more than vanity?

Like I said - if this is just a vanity project, 'to give something back' , then it defies human nature, it defies statistics and it defies logic. It may be true - but I don't believe it. You get the odd person who is willing to do that sort of thing - Bill Gates for example, Lord Nuffield. But half of a group of a dozen or so? No. That's not reasonable.

It's a group of mates though Bob. They can all afford to put money in and any expenditure is split five ways.

Does it matter whether it is for self vanity or anything else.
It is their money that they are investing and watching them jumping around and celebrating that second goal was like watching me and my mates doing the same when Rovers score a winner.
Why question them at all?

Taking away the Manchester United aspect, can't it just be that five mates who have retired and have a few bob want to keep involved with football as a group chuck a few quid at it.

No Andy. I really don't believe that. The Nevilles at least are far too wise to simply 'chuck a few quid' around. People with the sort of cash these guys all have employ experts. Advisors. They get seriously expensive advice before they commit to any major investment - never mind the open ended blank cheque that owning a footy club means. This is not simply mates having a giggle or yearning for their youth again. There's a reason for them deciding to do this. I'm curious to what know it is.

People who think this is for fun - fair enough. It could be. But that is still a reason; a positive decision to do something. But if you decide that that is their motivation, what makes you so certain it is not for another reason? What's the evidence? There's plenty of possible motives around. Ryan Giggs, for example, is seriously out of favour with the Glazers. He is twisting their nose quite badly. Perhaps the advice he has had has suggested a long term game plan? I dunno. But I don't believe people with the wealth, the wisdom and the expertise they have access to will simply 'chuck a few quid' at Salford. It's too big a commitment. It means there is some other motive in play.

That result wasn't as a bigger upset as some people might think.
When you've got player's aged 25 dropping out of professional football to join a Northern Premier league side then there's something wrong.
Most of the Salford side have played at an higher level, Jay Lynch the keeper for example has been on the bench for Bolton in PL so you can't say he couldn' t have found a league club at the age of 22.
I could go on through the whole team but i won't bother, but just say most of them have been at top clubs in the North West area and beyond at sometime during there careers ,it's not like some lower league sides where you get a 36yr old looking to see out his playing days for a few quid , Salford must being paying L2 Wages.

I think a lot of those who drop out in their 20s are those who realise they are not going to make it to the top and decide to do something else to fit around football. That might be further education, coaching or work. I was very impressed by Poole, who had played 100-odd games for Hartlepool and could easily do a job at L2 or even L1 level, but it turns out he's studying for a degree. I don't suppose he could combine that with full time football.

I seriously doubt Salford City are paying L1 wages, although they are probably among the highest payers at their level.

Don't these five own the big new hotel near Old Trafford? There was talk that the Man Unt. board want to buy it from them as apart from the money they think it embarrassing that the club don't own it.

The major player behind the Sports Hotel is Ryan Giggs. And he is seriously pissing off the Glazers too. Giggy's post match backslapping of sponsors, players, press and what nots all takes place in his own hotel. That means there's a lot of folk, influential folk, who don't go into the Utd bars and lounges now. There's trouble brewing there - which is one of the reasons why I was wondering about the motivation behind Salford City.
