I don't get this attitude.

Despite a dreadful start to the season, we are seven points off the play-offs.

We are just 4 points behind where O'Driscoll's team was in 2007/08 after 21 games. (That year, if we hadn't f**ked up in the final day, we'd have won automatic promotion.)

We're a couple of points behind where we were after 21 games last season. By February last season, we were in the top 6.

We're a point behind where Chesterfield were after 21 games last season. They made the play-offs.

We are in form. We have signings to make in January. We have (on paper) one of the easier second halves of the season.

We are in with a decent shout of making the play-offs.

In that light, the very last thing I am going to do is to hope that a manager succeeds at a rival club. I have the greatest of respect for what O'Driscoll did with us, but I hope he's a f**king disaster at Walsall.

I think this appointment secures them a top 6 finish, unless players are sold in January.

So, at the moment, there appears to be Burton, Walsall and Coventry who could well be battling for the top 2 places. What is up for grabs are places 4, 5 and 6 for the play-off's. That's what we have to realistically aim for. If we aim for 2nd and finish 6th, that'll do me.

Play-off final against anyone - result?

Bloody hell, it seems like some people on here would rather go to watch Walsall rather than the Rovers.  This Knicker wetting everytime SOD comes near doncaster is embarrassing to be frank.  Fergie is our manager, the football is more exciting and entertaining, and thats what i want from my football club.

I am quietly confident that come May 2016 we will be in another Brentford situation.

It is funny how this subject brings out a certain bitterness in people.

I'm quietly confident the majority in the Keepmoat on 30th of January will give SOD a good ovation. And then carry on supporting Fergie and boys.

It is no more funny that the knicker wetting which takes place with certain people whenever SOD's name gets mentioned.
I am sure most Rovers fans will give the man a clap or two but then it ends.

It will (hopefully) be a critical match for us. As things currently stand, the result of that match could put us within 8 points of Walsall or 14 behind them. Given the fixtures between now and then, the gap could well be a bit smaller. That COULD be a season-defining game.

But yes. O'Driscoll deserves applause for what he did for us.

10 seconds.

Followed by 90 minutes 130db cheering for the CURRENT players and manager.

A good ovation,  at the start then it is open season, just like it would be if it was a player

BST I spot on and I am totally convinced we will finish in the top 6 at least and top 2 is possible. PMA gets you places and this team NOW has it in abundance  :scarf:

SOD,DS,BF, PD are all history, all that matters is that we back DF and the team in every match.

In Fergie we Trust  :rtid:

He's the best manager so far that I have seen at the Rovers in my time since 1958.
I will applaud him out of respect not cult admiration.
He did a lot for the club and me as a supporter in help make my club respected and newsworthy.
I applaud ex players that served us well but once the whistle goes I want us to win.

Spot on with that.

One of the best managers we've had and deserves respect, from all quarters, for what he did with us and Richard O'Kelly deserves a special mention as well. The ideal double act.

I will never, ever forget that Wembley play-off final and the fantastic Hayter header. The pinnacle of my 50 odd years supporting DRFC.........so far???

I'll second that also.

Look Les I think no one will argue that I am Sean's No.1 supporter I still keep in touch with him mainly out of respect for his time with us but at a very superficial level. When that whistle goes my support goes with Fergy and Donny. I can't change my team but that does not stop me from showing respect for the best manager I have seen so far at Donny. Can Furgy take over that mantle I hope he can only time will tell.

That's not wetting my nickers its called RESPECT.

Basically, we have stopped being shit. Under Dickov we were by and large generally shit - even when we won. Don't think we will make play offs by at least we are no longer shit.

Those who want to clap him at the start will, those who don't won't. He isn't our manager now, we have a very good one of our own.
I am disappointed because i see it as a good appointment by them, i was hoping for a bad choice, having said that they might drop a point or two at the start trying to change to how he wants to play.
I am encouraged enough to not really worry about the opposition, we have enough good players, a manager who adapts to situations, and potentially even more players to add to what we have.
Personally if given the choice of swapping managers, as much as i like Sean's way of doing things, i wouldn't swap, i see good things happening with the manager we have.

SOD does need to be respected what he did for Rovers. However, he and us have moved on and we need to look forward not backwards. Fergie is our manager and he should have our support and loyalty.

I agree fully though I don't think anybody's saying he isn't or shouldn't I don't think Les.
I think he'll surpass what Sean managed to achieve, especially with this board above him who will give him time should rough ground need flattening!

SOD does need to be respected what he did for Rovers.

Again I agree fully.

Once that whistle blows though he's another team's manager and I hope his team get battered!

I am not sure if it was you but I heard a story the other day that you may have left the ground early and missed the goals in the last game and yet your wife stayed and witnessed the glory. Is that true or false?

Penney had the fortune of massive investment, others managed on a shoestring, and then there are the league levels as you say, plus all manner of other factors.

Didn't O'Driscoll build, at the time, the most expensive squad in our history to get us promoted?

He probably did but that's comparing apples with oranges, when was the last time in Lg1 that we lumped money on the team.  With the same team in the championship we had probably the lowest value squad but he had us up there for four seasons with next to nothing investment wise by comparison with the division.

But he didn't exactly get no money to spend. And he did make our two most expensive signings in our history, did he not?

Love these topics as I'm always unsure as to why some people despise SOD. For me he gave me the best football of my life and the best moments.

Yes it came crashing to a halt for whatever reason but up to then it was immense the achievement we had and the style we did it in but still seems some weren't happy.

Football fans really are crazy and not in the real world. Lack of class and lack of respect?? Probably.

I think what some posters are trying to get across. (With great difficulty with some posters) is that SOD has gone to one of our competitors, why do you have to keep drooling over him?
Nobody despises him that's ridiculous but some can see faults in him that others are blind to. Everything wasn't rosy for all his reign. Yes he did some good things with DRFC and realistically he should have gone before he did.
You can't even acknowledge why it came to an end.

Alick - it's false mate - my wife and I were both there at the end of the crewe game to witness both late goals! The mrs even said to me, 'we never win like this!'

Sorry wrong guy, but the man in question left the ground after the 90th min goal leaving his wife to get in the car park early. His wife left after the final whistle and witnessing the winning goal. Apparently he was as mad as a wet hen for the rest of the night.
I can't laugh I turned my computer off and was shocked when it came up on the TV results.
