Andy Williams
« on April 16, 2016, 05:49:22 pm by phil o sophical »
Had a fair bit of stick for his lack of success in front of goal and his constant arm waving and appealing to the officials but fair play to the lad, he was under some pressure with that penalty today and thankfully he delivered. Hopefully it might give him a bit of a boost for the last few games

Yes that penalty will give him the lift he needed.
His work rate today was up 25% I will back him to score 3/4 more goals now.

Look at his career with us and Swindon.

Fits and starts. When he starts scoring he kicks on. Then bizarrely stops for ten games. He will score a few more before end of season.

Why is his shirt pink?

His mam had the shirt on the wrong wash!. Never doubted his ability anyway, he is the best striker we have by a mile, and as said he went through similar at Swindon.
The managers job is to make sure he gets people around him to get him the chances, when confident he will put most in the net.
He does need to concentrate better than he has been, because defenders are effecting his game, he is too easily annoyed, by all means get annoyed, take the p..s out of them, and slam the ball in the net!.
Chris Brown had defenders so close to him he thought he had a twin, and that was every week, he needs to change it into a positive to motivate him and make them pay!.

Andy Butler's the best striker we've got at the moment.

If McSheffry had been allowed to stay on Williams wouldn't have took the pen

Agreed and it was noticeable AW was desperate for the Trainer to keep away from GM cos that would have meant he would have to go off *** and so he AW would have to step forward

Fair play to him he slotted it away under what would have been pressure for sure - sealed the 3 points rather than leave us with a very nervy finish so good on him. I would like to see him cut out the habit of looking / playing for the fouls almost every time when high balls come his way. The Refs give nothing as there is no foul and when there IS a genuine foul on AW they tend to not give those either cos they still think he is "up to no good"

*** I got to thinking about this. GM had to go to the side lines but the ball was dead awaiting the Penalty. Why would the Ref not just allow him back on because usually when a Player is off and awaiting coming back on the Ref waits for a "suitable" time to let them back on - so what could be more suitable than a dead ball situation ?

I know what I mean so just hoping most others can see what I am getting at and someone knows the answer

I think McSheffrey would have had to go off anyway. He had a cut on the back of his head and some blood on his shirt.

I did think we might have sent Tyson on then, but it would have been a big ask to score a penalty as your first action on the field. Well done to Williams for taking the kick and remembering rule one. If in doubt, just smash it!

Maybe gives a bit of an insight as to how low Williams level of confidence is at the moment. Must admit I also thought he was waving the trainer off so McSheffrey could take the penalty whereas most strikers would be grabbing the ball and sticking up their shirt so no-one else could get a look in

Surely any striker would have that niggling doubt at impossibly missing a crucial penalty. So he should and perhaps from what has been said he could have grabbed the ball urgently. Fact is he didn't , he took his time and scored the goal. Job done and victory sealed. It seems we even over- analyse the positive things we do. Why ?  just enjoy them for what they are ......positive moments.

Possibly Wolfy because the ball has to be in play. Maybe they wouldn't be waved back until the first kick which in this case would be a penalty.
I don't know but that seems likely.

I commented about this on another thread yesterday.
AW certainly indicated to the trainer to go back off the pitch.
It was a bit of a "Mourinho moment".
To Andys' credit though he accepted the pressure of taking it and i am very glad he didnt go for his usual option of sidefooting to the keepers left.
Jaskerlainnen knew where he usually puts it and dived that way.
Smash it straight down the middle almost always results in a goal.
