Euros 2nd team
« on May 28, 2016, 04:14:20 pm by NickDRFC »
So seemingly Norn Iron has some support on here, but who is everyone's second team this summer and why?

Mine is the Polish as my grandad hailed from Poland. Unfortunately not a lot of chance of any glory with either them or England.

I find it very difficult to give much support to England anymore. I'm getting less and less nationalistic as I get older and I wasn't very in the first place. If anything I feel British, not English. Secondly, since 1996 (most of my life) England have been a second rate international team. They should be on par with Italy, Germany and Spain - but for one, going on two, generations they haven't been. Watching the cycle of over-rating players, then getting knocked out in the 1/4s is pretty desperate.

I'm on Nothern Ireland because of the Rovers connection and how they play as a team.

Ditto, Copps is Magic.

Bunch of lads with limited ability but playing for their lives in a cohesive team.

Why do you support rovers then? Does it matter how good they are as long as the give 100percent?

Germany for me. I'm living in paderborn again and I genuinely love this country.  I'm considering staying after I finish with the army.

Northern Ireland for me, but I'll be rooting for Wales when they are not playing England.

Also glad to see Hungary there. I like them because they showed us how football should be played and were the best team never to win the World Cup- and yes, I include the Cruyff 1974 team in that.

Northern Ireland for me,as my long time girl friend lives there. I've been to their home matches and they show  so much pride an passion for their shirt . Luckily ,due partly to a poster on here we've got tickets to all three group games and a option for a last 16 ticket .

I'm actually in Budapest at the moment. Amazing how many mentions there are of Puskas around the city, either in named areas or just chats with locals. I reckon that I'll be rooting for them as well - impossible not to after spending time in as beautiful a city as this.

Spain for me, Spanish blood runs through my families veins. Well, one half, other half is yugoslavian but they don't really exist anymore.

Italy. My Gran is from Trieste. The usual pattern is to support England until they go out and then follow Italy for the rest of the tournament.

You could argue, except in a political sense, did Yugoslavia ever really exist?

All the other home nations. Usually the dutch i enjoy to see playing, but they haven't made it. Out of the bigger countries italy, but i love a smaller nation turning a few over, as long as it's not england they do it to!.

Always go for Holland after we fail but at a loss this time.
Realistically we'll stay in longer than the Irish, can't support the Welsh.

Ditto - usually the Dutch for me. Combine bits of the British game with their own flair and technique. This time it'll probably be one of the Eastern European nations that we look down upon based on reputation but realise they knock it about a lot better than us!

Sweden cos that's who I got in the sweepstake at work (and the dutch aren't there - they have always been my second international team) then wales as my surname is of welsh extraction and my great parents hailed from the valleys!
