South Stand Singers
« on November 20, 2016, 11:04:43 am by tommy toes »
What on earth are they singing about most of the time?
We had about half an hour of something about 'Runaway' and several reprises of that dreadful Sloop John B thing where we 'have to sign players on loooorrrrrn'
I was sat in front of this monotonous stuff all game and it was getting rate on me nerves.
How about singing stuff that actually shows they're supporting Donny Rovers.

You must have missed the back to league one chant that was the main feature. I thought the atmosphere was very good yesterday.

Tommy lad, this has made me chuckle.

The lyrics to the song you are reffering to are;

We're on our way
On the way
Back to league one, on the way
how we get there I don't know
how we get there I don't care
All I know is Donny's on the way.

Repeat.

The songs a good one in my book. And contributed to a very good atmosphere in the 2nd half yesterday when it got going. Better than whooa na na na na 'louder' which is what we had last season. Where were you for that?

Well I've learnt summat. Cheers.
Could have sworn they were singing interminable nonsense involving running away.
I apologise.

I sit in the west stand and couldn't hear the south stand apart from once in the first half. These new songs which only a few fans know kills the atmosphere. Singing songs most fans know helps make more noise. I have no issue with the south stand creating an atmosphere and when it's worked (stoke fa cup, Leeds league cup) it's been great. We are all Rovers fans so let's make it inclusive.

I find it increasingly weird this creating an atmosphere malarkey. Everyone seems to want someone else to do it for them. Chant starting, flag waving - everyone just wants to sit there and observe without doing it.

Every single new chant that does get adopted instantly has someone turning around to say 'Celtic sing that', 'That's a Wednesday song' as if football chants were ever original in the first place. Then we end up with la la la, na na na or da da da with rovers attached at the end.

Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

Get your point but why are football fans lacking creativity so much? Surely we could think something up?

There's worse things in life. Let em get on with it. Some chants/songs work some don't. Trial and error.

One of the reasons my youngest lad (14) has continued to be passionate about Rovers is A) he's a chop off the old block... and B) he loves the Black Bank. And he thought yesterday was electric. Now, I know football comes first - but surely, whatever gets him bonded to life into Rovers is what we need. So, as long as there's an atmosphere and the lads keep singing, does it really matter whether the songs are 'creative', 'original', 'politically correct' (or not), we're all Rovers. aren't we? And those youngsters will be flying the flag long after we're gone! In my opinion, there's more volume nowadays than many in the Championship - and that's got to be a good thing. RTID!
