impressed by Fergie last night

and the way he gave the players instructions before the penalty shootout.
The players must have been disappointed to concede so late in the game, but Fergie  looked so positive, and while sorting out the penalty takers and  was into their faces pointing and I suppose encouraging the takers.
I have got to say well played everyone, great to see our young players pushing on.Does anyone know if the younger players are seconded to a first team player when training?I think it was the idea of Jones to do this, and is a common trend on the  continent at professional clubs.
Was our average age younger than the Derby side?they didnt look as young as our team, the centre half must have had a large paper round.
While on about centre halves, how impressive is Fielding?that lad could go a very long way in the game, and I can see why Fergie rates Boudry, all in all an encouraging night  for our future prospects.

I thought Keegan had a steady game also considering the time he has been inured.

If he's ever on the pitch if we get another penno, he takes it!!  No discussion..

Wtf was marquis doing with his.. he telegraphed his run up then kicked it the way he was facing.   Worse penno I've ever seen lol.

At the beginning of DF's  reign I wondered if his declared commitment to developing our own youngsters was real and realistic . The progress of Middleton , Mandelson and Lund and the arrival of Longbottom , Fielding and  Beestin in particular is the best news  since the Bremner babes days, in my view .

His dad has always put a big emphasis on developing the clubs own young players, practically at every club he has been at. Developed players through your own system have a different mentality to players transferred in.
Our club has been without a soul for years, not really bringning any through. Any club that does benefits from it in the mentality of the place and the fans identify with them more.

That Youth Cup Final side was a helluva bloody team. Steve Beaglehole produced it. Unless it was his Dad? Don't think so.

Wasn't it the only time a side from a 4th division club has ever got to the Final?

I remember them but it was just before i started watching rovers regularly. My first game against exeter rankine was playing, raffell i think another youth teamer. Snodin had already left by the time i was watching. Brevett he might have played that day, i think he did and left not long after.
I don't think the club has really been serious about producing it's own players since i have watched them. The odd one here and there, mostly like paul green developed somewhere else and joins us and makes it into the first team.
Husband was very similar not really one of ours. Wade Fairhurst was probably the last i remember getting a few games in the first team and looking as though he had a chance for a bit. Nice to see a few coming through and looking capable of making it.

Fairhurst came from Sheff Utd aswell!

Right now we're looking the best we have with youth for a long time. Most of them have come through for a few years too, not picked up from other teams academies. I love seeing our own lads come through but don't have a problem with picking up someone like Beestin either. Wouldn't mind a few more like him in January either.

Fairhust came from Doncaster boys .. as did Johny Billings .. The team that beat Brierly Hill in the final of the English School trophy ... that team joined Rovers in it's entirety and played in the Northern Intermediate League for two seasons before all of the players left except Bilings and Fairhurst. It goes back to season 1958/59 /60 !

Brian - you're thinking of John Fairhurst who played in the 60s. The chap above is Waide Fairhurst who came into our youth set up via Sheffield United and played a few first team games in around 2009-10.

John Fairhurst was on the pitch at the last legends day but I don't think many people knew who he was.

I said something similar a bit ago. I would love to see us trying to bring an up and coming player in either every transfer window or every couple. Lads like beestin bring a hunger to do well with them, also if you get the right one's talent as well.
Beestin has the makings of a good little player, i think he is being handled perfectly. Getting a game here and there and giving him time to adapt, we might have a good one with him!.
