Amazing how many have been relatively recent appointments eg Di Matteo, Trollope and (when he goes) Pearson.

It seems some clubs are just not prepared to give a manager time.

But let's be honest, our manager would be under pressure too had we not got 20 points and not been second in the table.  ..

For the other teams, appointing another manager in the next few weeks gives them a couple of months to work with their squads before the transfer window opens.

Most managers are always skating on thin ice, it seems!

Yes, Ferguson would have been under pressure because we were relegated under him last season. That isn't the case with the managers I mentioned. Villa were relegated but not with Di Matteo.

Not many clubs would have stuck with DF through the awful run at the beginning of the year...

Even less of those clubs would have stuck with him AFTER relegation...

We have a reputation as a club who don't just sack managers in the first (or even second) instance. I think that's probably why we get a high level of applicants, and also why we are the, all round best club in the world... ever. IDST!!!!

It's the rewards on offer, makes it too tempting to pull the trigger. I can't say I particularly feel sorry for the manager - they get a tidy pay off (paid up for the year?), and it never seems to harm any chances of getting the next job on the carousel. It's not like they have to head down to the job centre!

I often wonder about those contracts though..So many managers for so few jobs,I wouldn't be shocked if the termination clauses are a lot smaller than we think...

The first sacking, which was in the last fortnight I believe, actually seemed to be later than it has been in recent years to me. It was definitely later than last year as both ourselves and Peterborough dispensed with our managers in the first week or so of September then.

The paul trollope appointment was never going to work in my opinion, swapping vast experience for very little. Swansea's sacking Guidolin for bradley makes no sense at all other than the owners are american!.
Ferguson would have been sacked at another club almost everytime. The board recognised that there had been problems for some time with our club.
He was still fortunate to hang onto his job, there were quite a few wanted him out of the door. I only just came down on keeping him myself, he still hasn't completely convinced me but has repaired some of the damage he did to my opinion of him after last season.

The owners did what was needed for the club, listened to the fans opinions no doubt and weighed everything up looking at the whole picture and upto now they have been proven right!.
A few bad results and if you aren't sure it starts wavering whether you re sure of him. The board always has to keep a calm mentality and weigh things up. Our board does that, the trouble is a lot don't.
