Defending

Wait until you see Joe Wrights mistake for their goal.  A simple ball in the box that should have been out for a corner and he gives them a goal.

I'm worried this is going to hold us back this year, needs sorting!!

He's young and will make mistakes.  Occasionally they will cost us a goal.  We need to accept that and not hang him out to dry.  He is a fantastic prospect.

Having made the bad mistake for the goal he's just made a goal line clearance to save a goal. He is young he will improve in decision making and defending.

Seen the goal on twitter, if he didn't get a call, he should of. But any how it was a very poor clearance.

Its what the pundits always say. Its what you learn from your mistakes after making them. That ones a shocker but - hey - we got away with it in the long run

Exactly my thoughts DVR.
If we had conceded those two the fans would have been baying for blood.

you can see straight away he knows he dropped a clanger. That mistake will have gone through his head again and again tonight and will do all weekend. If he is ever in that position again he won't make the same mistake he will put it away for a corner or throw. He is young and still learning.

I watched the Swansea - Liverpool match, and the Swansea player (Barrow?) did a very similar thing which led to Liverpool's late winner.

I am convinced we have a real prospect in Joe

The good thing is that as we won although he will feel bad he will learn without the pain of losing points.

He is the best young centre half we have had for years, with Butler, Evina,Marosie, and Richardson before he went off they all gave everything to win the game.

If I was being critical, I would be more concerned over the nature of the clearance itself, than the fact that he felt the need to clear it - should have gotten a call to leave alone?

If he has to clear it, welly it into row Z for a throw in, or perhaps a corner.

Still, we won away at Pompey.  No long term harm done..

A lot of talk about Wrights mistake, but what about the back heel line clearance by Butler - fantastic

This thread is a breath of fresh air on here, and in our fanbase. Terrific to see so much positivity in the face of a player making an error. I do think Wright is going to grow into a very good player and hopefully will learn a lot from Baudry and Butler.

I think fans will forgive players that normally play well and/or put 100% into games. It tends to get more personal if the player concerned looks to be disinterested.

Wright is doing well if he keeps working as he is then he has a good chance of a very good career. It was plain and simply a communication problem with that goal. I like to see back fours and goalkeepers talking to each other, it stops a lot of goals like that.
He will have learnt a lot from it and ultimately it didn't cost us the result.
