What it does is make the regionalised leagues a poor relation of "the real thing"
The eventual step up to the real league then becomes more of a shock to the system as clubs have to spend more money than they've been used to on travelling and overnight stays taking funds away from the playing side.

That in effect widens the gap between the higher leagues and the lower ones making onward progression less likely.

Aside from that I personally enjoy visiting different places and enjoy my days to London matches and other east coast mainline venues as well as grounds I've not been to before.
I could get to east coast mainline matches quicker and cheaper by train with suitable planning than I could to some of those northern venues.

A terrible idea in my mind and just reinforcing the North South divide that the government denies exists.
