When football changed forever

Did anybody watch this at ten o'clock?. We got a mention, it showed paul daniels saying something like ''We've got to support rovers now otherwise there might not be a rovers''. He did this while making a ball disappear, i'm sure many of you have seen it many times, but first time i've seen it.
Very good programme, alan sugar claims a lot of credit for himself that's all i will say incase somebody has recorded it for later.

If that progarmme is referring to the time when the bidding for tv rights first started, then Mr Alan Sugar was not only instrumental in ensuring Sky tv got a load but he did it by means that were, at the very least, questionable then and remain questionable now. Sky hadn't bid enough. That was bad news for le Sugar. His was the company that made the satellite dishes (or it might have been the boxes. It doesn't matter which though tbh). He needed Sky to win to ensure he got lots and lots of orders.

So, mysteriously, Sky decided that they could, and should, put in another bid. I can't remember if it was a late bid - I have a feeling it was, but I'm not sure now after all this time. Telephone calls and exceptional information might perhaps have played a role in what went on too.

Cheers

Thank you BJW. That says, far more openly, what I was hinting at. I confess I didn't know to what extent it was safe to repeat the story. But, having met David Conn, if he's saying it, then it's a) safe to say it, and b) true. So yes. There was a conflict of interest, there was insider information being shared and used and there was a fit up all round. And a certain gentleman was right slap bang in the middle of it. And nobody ever said a word. I've despised that shit ever since.

It shouldn't have been allowed, but it was and here's where we stand.

Money, the root of all evil is an old saying that fits this sorry tale.
