Wouldn't surprise me if Chelsea extended his contract knowing we'll make a bid in the summer.

I seriously doubt that Chelsea would give a player a contract on the assumption that Doncaster Rovers might want to sign him.

Chelsea are protecting their asset, he'll be on the radar of Championship clubs without a doubt, he's been at Chelsea since he was 8 years old, Chelsea have invested considerable time and effort in him, despite being a big money club they'll want to see some return on that investment rather than let him go for free
