Alfie May become a legend.......
« on March 11, 2017, 08:17:25 pm by Bentley Bullet »
....If he continues to play his heart out like he has done so far. Great to see the fans show their appreciation today with a standing ovation as he left the pitch.

Well done Alfie!

He does look the part BB but I always think how fans react differently to different players.
If Williams had missed some of the chances that Alfie has done the crowd would really be on his back.

The difference between them is Williams get frustrated with himself and throws his arms about as if he has just had a toy taken off him where as May just gets his head back in the game like when he had the 3 shots in a row.

Williams was unlucky when he came on could have had a couple of goals but for some world class saves.

I believe May will be a great player for us

All players respond differently though.
Williams just has his own way of showing it.
He too gets on with things and his effort can't be questioned.
The point I am making in my earlier post is that had Williams failed to put away some of Alfie's chances he would have got some proper stick from some supporters.

May was brilliant today. Unlucky not to get a goal.

Aye but Williams has been playing professionally for years. You can cut some slack when they've had about five games as a pro.

I was expecting May to be replaced around the hour mark especially after the knock he got, but Fergie must have also felt he was too good to replace.

I'm quite sure that had he gone off, his replacement wouldn't have created the second goal for Marquis.

More likely that Alfie is still in the honeymoon period.
Williams was there too last season but has gone past that now.
For the record, I also rate May highly and also love the way he plays.

As I posted on another thread, Williams looked lively and sharp when he came on. If it wasn't for two brilliant saves by their keeper he would of had two goals.

What frustrates me about Williams is not missed chances, its games in which he goes completely absent. So far, May has been 'in' every game and, although not scoring, is creating a ridiculous amount of chances. If Williams was creating chances in games I wouldn't mind - I certainly wouldn't criticise him.

I think we've got four very capable strikers at the club.

Early in today's game, when Alfie was a bit naive and got got robbed of the ball, I said to my brother "I wonder if he could cut it in League One?'
Alfie proceeded to make me eat my words, with a truly excellent performance. He must have felt so proud when he went off to that standing ovation from the crowd. And that deciding goal for Marquis? Completely created out of nothing by little Alfie.

Fabulous performance and an instant fans' favourite.
Superb.

It is Roy of the Rovers stuff for Alfie. We are the ones to give him his big chance. He will be living his dream and be desperate to take his chance and prove he is worth his starting place.

He has Willo breathing down his neck and Mandeville to come back and add yet more competition.

Marquis has got the goals this year and has deservedly cemented his place, so that leaves one spot up for grabs.

It is great to see his hunger and application and he deserves the plaudits. He will still be getting up to speed with the standard, but his effort and ability are plain to see. I think he could be a huge success for us.

I was gutted when their keeper pulled off that worldie to stop Willo scoring. One goal and he'll be off. Thought he was good when he came on.

May was outstanding. Ran his socks off and made the second goal.

Best player on the pitch by a country mile with the possible exception of their goalie. His ball control & trickery reminds me of a young copps. Let's hope anyway!

Marty Blair was the best player on the pitch today... By a country mile.  Alfie had a really good game and deserved his standing ovation but....... He has only scored once for Rovers and that was a fortunate finish against Luton under the keeper's legs.  He had two one-on-ones today and didn't score and the pass to Marquis for the second goal actually came off the defender.  He has made a good start to his league career but still has a lot to learn and there is a long long way to go before he reaches the legendary status which this thread appears to be bestowing on him.  Keep up the good work Alfie, but let's not get too carried away just yet!!

The defender did nick it but I think that's an unfavourable reading of the goal. Alfie wining the ball, running with it, cutting by the defender - that's what made it.

it is easy to see why their keeper had not let a goal in for four games, he was very good. BUT just one goal for Willow and he will be flying again, I would hope it is very soon. He deserves it

I thought "Marty" was very good today but I guess people see things differently and I just loved the way he had instant control and how he brought it down numerous times copps-esque, and took the game by the scruff of the neck for the second goal. Without that second goal we may have got nervous towards the end but afterwards we took control of the game. I thought we were poor in passing today until we were 2-0 up and if their forwards hadn't been so toothless we might have conceded. But, as I said, we all see games differently and, whilst I'm sure you'll disagree, that's how I saw it anyway.

Great performance from May, he was MOTM for me and had a big hand in both goals. He works his socks off and has plenty of ability, he caused a lot of problems for their defenders even though they were all giants.

Anyone criticising or nit-picking his performance is being ridiculous if you ask me, get behind the lad because he's doing everything right at the moment.

Ref PODs comment above, to suggest that Mays goal against Luton was fortunate is ridiculous.
He intended to put it between the keepers legs.
