My take on that game?
« on September 09, 2017, 10:30:05 pm by Alickismyhero »
Having refereed for many years I quite often speak up for refs. On the whole this ref did ok but what let him down was I thought we should have had two penalties with may be another suspect one. So he got two major ones wrong in my book which points to him having a bad game. Why his assistant never signal for the Marquis push I don't know because he had a perfect position to see it.

I had a quick scan to see if anyone had mentioned the incidents sorry if I missed the topic.

We just never looked like scoring and the best effort was Tommy's header from the corner stopped by their keeper making a very good save.

Having been stuck on the M1 because of a serious accident I could have done with not witnessing that poor performance.

Cops was brilliant today tying his markers up in knots, fantastic to watch. JFH their manager congratulated Cops on his performance when he left the pitch.

Our boys were slow off the mark and full marks to them they took the game to us and closed down play very fast.

We should have lost by more goals with the opposition nearly taking advantage of shocking cross field passing giving the ball away in very dangerous positions.

Over the entire game we just had the edge but they deserved the win.

Conclusion, Fergy has to take his share of the blame, put it right and quick. My last 3 games have been Wycombe, Wimbledon and Northampton and they were the same......very very poor.

The inconsistencies with refs is terrible.
I wasn't at the game today but someone else on another thread mentioned the pens we should have had.
I have watched the sky highlights tonight and the ref in the Portsmouth game gave them a pen following a ridiculous dive by Pittman.
It should never have been a pen.

I understand the problems a ref has with not having 100% vision all the time in a game but the Marquis pen should have been given by the Assistant. He had a clear view because I instantly looked at him at the time of the incident and he had no obstruction at all.

Definite penalty.

I thought the referee was good today. Missed a blatant penalty for Marquis (lino didn't help him out at all) but got most things right, I thought.

DF thinks that some of his players are believing in their "own hype" . Yet Copps says that's only  DFs  "opinion"  , surly the manager's view isn't just an opinion is it ! . He has to base his views on past performances and judge accordingly . When your Captain only thinks that teams managers views are only his opinions is he loosing the  ear of the team ?

I would have thought it better to say 'we are pulling in the same direction 'or 'we take on board everything that's said and done ' or some such , but to imply what DF says is just an opinion, is a poor choice of words .

More often than not in games, the linesmen only raise their flag to indicate which way a throw in is going to be, and even then they wait for the ref to decide first.
Of course they also look for offsides but it is amazing how many they get wrong.
Flagging for penalties is right off the scale.

The Assistant as the name implies is there to help the ref to make a correct decision and flag if he saw an infringement. The ref should consult and then make his decision. I am convinced the Assistant saw the same as me and he should have flagged for a penalty. I even think the ref had a good view of the foul. On this occasion I will not defend the ref he got two major decision wrong which affected the result. Had he got those penalties decisions correct he would get an 8/10 from me instead of 4/10. As I said earlier we were poor and they deserved the 3 points in the end.

I would like to think my opinion is based on my experience as a retired ref and not one of an over emotional biased supporter but I am not sure about that!
