Unacceptable ball
« on October 25, 2017, 09:41:02 am by Hounslowrover »
I note the Premiership prima donnas are at it again.  Pep Guardiola saying the ball used against Wolves was not acceptable for a high level competition, it was used for marketing money!   Apparently his players had one or two days to practise with the ball.  Now I can see why Arsenal struggled against us, it was the ball  :headbang:

Ignore Hounslow, Richmond or Twickenham are better and livelier.  Mind you it depends what you mean by a night out, I'm 69 so can't say too much.

Apparently Guardiola's specific complaint was that it wasn't Nike, Adidas or a brand he'd heard of? It was a Mitre ball, obviously the most common football used in this country for years and years! Pathetic excuse for not being able to beat a supposed lesser opponent.

And even well known brands get it wrong when they make brand new versions - there was a lot of criticism of a ball that was specially made for a World Cup Finals, can't remember which one off the top of my head.

The laws of the game give clear specifications for the ball, size, shape, weight etc.

As long as a ball is within those tolerances, it's legal.  So what if it is different slightly (say) in aerodynamic performance from one brand to the other.

And it is the same for both sides...

I think both sides complained.

Not sure this is true, I think you might be thinking of Umbro. Nike bought them a few years ago then sold them on again after taking the high profile contracts including England and Manchester City. I reckon Mitre are still a British owned company and surely recognised as one of the top manufacturers of footballs.

I think you're right there Dave. Sorry, my mistake.

It's a rubbish excuse and undoubtedly the worst one used in the Premier League this season.

If the ball was such an issue, why didn't he mention it after their game in the previous round?

Also, it's the same ball which is used in the Football League so, again, if it was such an issue then it wouldn't have been hard for him to contact Oldham, Rochdale, Bury or any of the other local lower league clubs and get a dozen or so balls for his players to train with.

He's just looking for excuses and talking ball-ocks.

I find his comments disrespectful to Wolves' players and management who obviously went there with a game plan and came within a whisker of executing it to perfection.

He wants to try playing with those plastic balls you get from the seaside, they move all over the place in the air 😀

Man City might not like the ball tough.Teams dont like some pitches or grounds they play on but you get on with the job.The cost of Man City foreward line they should be able to play with a balloon and score.I agree with Annie honemous credit should go to Wolves for there performance
