Sharp again
« on February 27, 2018, 09:30:20 pm by RoversAlias »
I may have been horrendously wrong in my early season assertion that Everton would do well this year, but I'm not the only one because Billy Sharp has netted two more tonight, which means he has 13 goals for the campaign now, 12 in the league. Easily into double figures and hitting good form again!

He has 12 goals in the Championship this season, a figure that one of our regulars with a betting eye said he would not reach (actually, double figures).

Same betting sage said Everton would not finish in top half, which at least looks a very vaguely feasible result.

I once was asked by a fan for an autograph at a Barnsley v Everton game many years ago.
He thought I was Graham Sharpe.

This is it. I was steadfast in opposing the view that Everton would struggle and was proven dead wrong, but since both discussions I've kept an eye on the fortunes of both Everton and of Sharp and am glad to see the Sharp prediction of said poster proven just as wrong. He's having a great season and has proven that Wilder's decision to drop him last month was the wrong one.

Come on, Everton have been shocking this season. People were touting them for champions league football and I said they would struggle losing their best two players.

As for Sharp, he’s done ok. Three more goals than Marquis who people think has been poor in front of goal!

I’m not putting odds on chances up here remember.

Sharp is being marked by far better defenders most games though.

Sharp - 13 goals (and 4 assists) in 1,897 minutes - 146 mins per goal

Super John - 10 goals (and 3 assists) in 3,294 minutes - 329 mins per goal

On the face of it Sharp is having a much better season, scoring goals more than twice as regularly as Marquis.

On the flip side (and this is without seeing any United games this year), I’d imagine Marquis is performing the more selfless role and doing more for the team, plus Sharp has been in a team who for the large part have been doing well.

Difficult to make a really relevant comparison between the 2, but congratulations to Sharp - however you look at it, his is a very impressive record for someone who has been in and out of the team. I’m sure gazlaz wasn’t the only expert who wrote him off and long may he continue to prove them wrong.

The fact Sheff U have performed a lot better than I thought they would as a team has enabled Sharp to score more than I thought he would. If they were struggling a bit he would be the first to be made the scapegoat in my opinion and taken out of the side.

Fair play to him, and fair play to the Blades, they’ve had a great season. Now back to my number one target of winning the DRFC Super 6 and PvO!!

Why did some people on here think the Blades would let him go?
It was never going to happen and those thinking he will play for DRFC again need to wake up and smell the coffee. It’s not going to happen.
No good looking backwards we must look forward to the future.
Billy as much as we all loved him represents the past.

Trying to compare him with Marquis is ridiculous they are very different players, who played in very different Rovers teams.

Marquis is not, never will be, or ever has been, in the same class as Billy Sharp

Ok, just to qualify, for the majority of the season Marquis hasn't been able to hit a cows bottom with a banjo. His work rate is good, his finishing has been very poor and his attitude towards his team mates on several occasions (and referees) very poor
