Woods biggest fault while at Rovers was his frequent shot stopping led to him parrying the ball forwards to the waiting striker.
He seemed on so many occasions to do this instead of palming the ball sideways out of immediate danger.

He has obviously improved as he wouldn’t have played for so long in the Scottish Premier league. He must be of a decent standard simply to have played consistently for 11 years.

Some of the criticism of him is over the top. He was a young Keeper learning his trade while with us.

That is why at a professional club you iron out and improve the weaknesses. Surely in all walks of life you look at your mistakes and think that I don't want to do that again.
A professional footballer can always stay behind after training and do extra training even if it's with the youth team. I would want to be the best that I could. If I wasn't Premier League quality then aspire to be the beat in the Championship and so on. They are living the dream hound. Ronaldo used to stay behind at Man U practicing free kicks. Good enough for him then a good guideline for lesser players.

100% right.
I still don’t understand why players don’t use their “wrong foot”.
They shouldn’t have one.
hound we are very much in agreement on that one. This is very much a bug bear of mine.
Even i who was a goalkeeper not good enough to be a pro footballer can kick with my other foot (left)
Reason, practice, practice & more practice.
I just don’t understand how most pro footballers today are reluctant to improve their other foot.

What I can say for sure is that I've never heard the Keepmoat go so quiet each time a ball was played back to GW when in front of the goal...mass breath-holding

Seemed to have made a decent living out of football despite most people on here thinking he’s crap. Shows what some people know

Yes, I bet you would swap places with either of them.

Would either of them improve or even make our team last year?
I don't think so but good luck to both of them wherever they play.

So we can't debate or pass opinion on a player because said player has "made a decent living"?

Alright then, let's not say anything about a professional football player ever again, since they all make lots of money and thus must be very good.

This thread has been a pretty reasonable, calm discussion about the merits of Gary Woods' ability and his time at DRFC. There's nothing wrong with discussing whether a player was any good or not, and it makes a change from the umpteen threads about new managers and McCann and all of that.

Not stopping anyone having a debate on the merits of GW, just adding my thoughts on the matter.
