Other teams are a lot bigger than us..We are smaller than most teams we play..Why do you feel the need to go after Marquis and completely forget about the players whose job it is to create chances in the first place..Nobody has criticised Coppinger today at all and whilst he is a legend,he was pretty poor Saturday,as was Wilks while he was on..
There was a reason that Marquis was coming back and going wide for the ball...And the ineffectiveness of our midfield was it..

Wilks was on the pitch for 14 minutes and for ten of those he was struggling with a dead leg-ridiculous statement saying he was poor

I'll agree with the comment about his frustration. He's without a doubt a guy who has peaks and troughs.

I hope he's on a peak on Saturday against them lot down the road.

Bit harsh to say Wilks was poor while he was on, he was subbed after 13 minutes and got injured several minutes before that!

EDIT: I didn't see the second page, so Knockers already made my point. It stands though!

The point was more to do with Wilks contribution over the last few games he's played and others in our midfield too and yes I include Copps in that..It's easy to jump all over Marquis because we look toothless at times but if he had a bit more confidence that our midfield could create more for him then he wouldn't have to keep coming back or wide to pick up the ball..

BB, what do you call an assist, the last player to touch the ball, or pass the ball before someone to score the first touch in a 36 pass move?. The best assist( cleverest )was Crawford doing a dummy run outside at Southend that gave Wilks the room to turn and shoot, he didn't touch the ball, so probably you would not count it.
Another next to useless stat you can twist to suit your case, much like the time on the field to scoring goals, which never seems to be brought up nowadays.

I agree about players making decoy runs to attract defenders is an assist Selby but I think the official stats refer to players who make the final pass to a scorer.

Selby, I'd say a player is credited with an assist when he passes the ball to the scorer.

I gave you a stat last season about Alfie May being the most prolific scorer in terms of time on the pitch. That was in answer to your claim that May was rubbish or whatever derogatory remark you gave him at the time. That wasn't a useless stat. That was a factual stat.

Talking of stats though, have you got any factual ones proving Marquis scores less because May is alongside him?

You keep going on about this clock lark, Selby. I haven't a clue what clock you're referring to. Is it a wind-up?

Come On BB, put them together, times to goals, number of goals in meaningful games since last Christmas, count the minutes on the clock divide them by? surely you can work it out, you kept on about the same thing until Christmas last season.
Or have the numbers got that big now?

I remember looking into this towards the back end of our title-winning League Two campaign, although the context for asking the question was a bit different. It's nigh-on impossible to come up with anything conclusive without spending hours and hours on it with variables like subs on and off, opposition strength, availability of other players (eg you'd expect Rovers in general to score more goals when Tommy Rowe/Copps/both play) etc

Thanks, Selby! I could have said May has scored no goals in the games he hasn't played in but I thought I'd leave that stat for you to use in desperation.

Marquis since joining us has scored around 50 goals in 109 games.
How you can criticise that god only knows

His appearance record, his goal-scoring record and the amount of effort he puts in on the pitch are first-rate. I can't understand how anyone could criticise him on any of those counts. He has proved to be a brilliant signing and we're lucky to have him in my opinion.

I do get a bit irritated by his apparent 'mardiness' in the way he deals with his team mates sometimes.
Being very close to the pitch at the Chorley game (shades of Old BV!) meant that I could see and hear a lot more of what went on.
There was one occasion when Wilks mis-placed a pass to JM and Marquis turned round and snarled "f*****g s**t!" at Wilks. A bit harsh! And not the best way to motivate a young team-mate.

But in the context of his overall contribution to the team, I can forgive him that part of his character.

John's an alpha male who wants the best from himself, and others. He's got a winners mentality. I'm sure he's likely to go up to lads after the game and explain his piece.

Happens at any level of sport. Sometimes a kick up the arse from your lead man works wonders.

Every team needs an Alfie May. Sorry, Alpha Male.
