It can't keep happening

Centre half in the Rob Jones mould required asap. I appreciate its not just the defenders but just sick of it now. Also Marquis should have 30 goals now, some of his misses are extraordinary.

Nope. 100% focus needs for the entire game. That’s all. The personnel are good enough.

Ironically both of the glaring misses v Burton. It's easy to blame centre half's however, having both of them play manfully for 90 minutes, it's a slip in concentration somewhere that's cost us. Last week the centre halves were blameless so let's not be too harsh on them.

From our seats Anderson and Butler were superb. Blair struggled with Akins . Tommy Rowe clearly isn’t fully recovered. New boy Tyler Smith what a great debut. We should have won . Great second half imo 😀

Both centre halves played very well today, Anderson especially. It's not a case of getting a big CB in, we have those already. The late concessions from set pieces are down to the entire team.

Disappointing to throw it away but taking into account the whole game it was probably a fair result. We couldn't live with Burton first 25 mins, then worked our way back into the game, and missed more than enough sitters 2nd half to put the game out of sight.

If we put those clear chances away we are not even under pressure at the end and probably don't concede that goal.

We can’t see games out it pathetic, last season it cost us 21 points from winning positions and we’re nearly in double figures this time around with much the same squad , so it’s no coincidence. Clubs know our weakness and it shows . It’s ok bringing in new loans but we have to bolster our defence with a quality CB. , we have only average fullbacks that don’t always  defend where it matters in the six yard box . So to keep relying on out scoring the opposition . How we’ve got this far beggars belief.

And how does this compare to other teams and a league mean average?

Seen a tweet from one of the DFP lads saying its only the last 7 or so games where its been an issue this season. i'm not sure what the issue is, i don't think its fitness we seem to be in better shape than them in the second half.

It just felt like a switch went in the lads head and we sat back and let them throw everyone forward and we just didn't manage it. i know there's 2 teams in every game but we need to get a better plan to see games out

We beat Wimbledon with a very late goal.
Drew at home to Gillingham with a very late goal.
Got a 90th Minute goal in the 3-2 win at Plymouth.

So there are seven points we have gained with late or last minute goals, which balances out your “almost double figures” of points lost this season.

These things balance out over a season.

Fans of other clubs will be saying exactly the same as you are doing.

It was Plymouth who got the 90th minute goal.

Marquis scored in the 90th minute to seal the win.
Plymouth scored after that.

Yes but without the two late goals we'd have won 2-1, it doesn't really fit with the way we've chucked the 5 points away in these two last games.

Plymouth scored late in that game so without the 90th minute goal we might not have won.

These things do balance out over a season though.

It will happen to every other team in the league too but we only notice when it happens to us.

As I've said in the other thread Hound, it's not the same thing; we're talking about conceding goals when we're drawing or winning by one goal; in other words conceding goals that lose us points.

In less than a month we’ve lost 7 points through goals in the 90th min.
We’d be level with Sunderland if we’d hung on in those three games.
It’s not been an issue all season but it seems once it happens it will keep on happening

I think we need a centre half in but not in the mould of Jones.

Maybe we need to start sending someone to opposition training grounds to spy on set pieces?!

We need to leave at least 2 players up front when it gets to the end. We almost have too many players back everyone just gets out of position/panicked. Leave a few up and when we clear we can go up the other end and finish the game off!

I'm sure that if Alfie May was left on the halfway line they would have two defenders to cover him.
That would be three less to clutter up the box plus Alfie's height won't be much use defending a corner.
Saying that, the last two headers conceded have needed no jump whatsoever.

At that stage of the game the opposition load the box, so if you leave us outnumbered and the same happens, you will  be in for some severe criticism.

Yeah but they wouldn’t leave a man unmarked on the halfway line

Last 6 L1 Games

Burton  91

Wycombe  90 94

Rochdale    0

Gillingham  88

Fleetwood  91

Oxford    97

It's a worry that needs addressing before it becomes Psychological both ways.
1 team believing their going to concede and start panicking (us) and 1 team pushing in the final minutes believing their going to get something from the game.
This trend won't have gone unnoticed by other teams .

have we all forgotten the Rovers players also caught the
disease "conceedimus lategoalimus  nintyiminus" in the midpart of last sesson under Fergie and after taking the anti-dote thankfully cured it. In late season a few teams caught it when we played them .
Seem to remember coming back from 2-0 down against someone
was it Scunnie ?  :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:

Feel like we've tried matching them up, as have countless teams, and it just leads to to the ball coming back again and again until the opposition get a chance. Really good teams deal with those last few moments better by keeping a threat to the opposition

At that stage of the game the opposition load the box, so if you leave us outnumbered and the same happens, you will  be in for some severe criticism.

Thing is though, if I'm Burton (or whoever) and I'm losing deep in injury time, why would I not just put everyone forward for the corner regardless of who the opposition leave out of the box? Conceding again doesn't change the outcome of the game when already losing, but going gung-ho at a late set piece increases my chances of an equaliser.

In short, we don't have the luxury of being able to leave men up at late set pieces with the opposition loading the box.

Not sure the problem is really defence or conceeding in last minutes - yet again we drew/lost  because we did not put the game away with the the good chances we created earlier. Had we scored one or more of those chances, then there would not be the pressure in the last 5 minutes that we expereinced, the opponents would already be thinking about the next game not still got a chance to nab somthing from the game.

We are still missing too many really good opportunities for me -until we are more ruthless in front of goal we are always going to draw/lose games we shouldn't.

More finishing practice needed...... :scarf:
