Does Marquis need a rest??
« on January 20, 2019, 04:53:20 pm by sha66y »
It can’t be fair on any player being the automatic first choice week in week out,....
I watched his “ rounding the keeper ...open goal miss” and immediately thought he looks stressed and fatigued.... burning so bright for so long must eventually take its toll ....

Thoughts of a constructive nature are welcome...lol

Don’t think he is the type of player that needs a rest. That was just a sloppy finish and he will know it.
If GM thought he was fatigued i would think he would reduce his training during the week to keep him fresh.

He got six days to rest before our next game. That's enough surely.

No rest - if we did rest him he would be rightly miffed

He is leading scorer for a reason - works all 90 minutes (97 v Wycombe) and runs trying to close down the Keeper and others

He did a great job rounding Keeper yesterday but it looked like he saw the defender getting back and likely to get a low shot and went high but o course too high

Stays for me

He's scored 10 in the last 13 games. I think he's ok.

I don’t get all this stuff about players in the modern game needing a rest.  George Best and others like peter Osgood and the small squad at derby that win the league didn’t need rests.  I know today’s game is faster but back then players like JM got The sxxt kicked out of them every week and kept coming back.

From the amount of effort JM put in to reach the ball and play it back for Rowe's goal at Wycombe I would keep him going, it was a superb effort and right in front of our supporters.

He's a striker, he will have days when it won't go in. A bloke that averages a goal every other game over two-and-a-half seasons doesn't need resting. 5 goals in his last 6 or 10 in his last 13. One of those days.

Not the kind of player who wants or needs a rest. If he was, I think we'd see him being subbed from time to time. He's quite a rare breed in this time of mollycoddled players. He's very much at his peak and hungry.

He's not in bad form at all and played well yesterday. Missed a sitter but we all know he's got that in him rested or not. Massive overreaction to suggest resting the divisions top scorer

He is our main hope of getting goals, others get them sometimes, but in the main its John, I'm sure if he needed a rest he would ask Grant to rest him

JM is an incredibly fit footballer a proper 90 minute man - he’s scoring goals in a team that creates him chances - I cannot see him wanting to be rested at all so the answer to the op is; NO !!!

NO he just needs a more ruthless edge and a trip to spec-savers for those difficult passes to his team mates .

Even Harry Kane hasn’t scored as many league goals this season as JM.
Of course he doesn’t need a rest.

I’d wager that if asked the question John would answer with a “Hell No” resting is something actors do not footballers

Most first choice players will be more than happy to be playing every week as well.
Anyone who thinks differently has probably not played.

Ruthless edge.

Ruthless bloody edge!?

He has 20 goals in 33 games this season, and 60 goals in 132 games overall for Rovers. He is the division's leading scorer and two seasons ago won the League Two Golden Boot whilst playing up front for us.

His "ruthless edge" is apparent for all to see. No striker on the earth scores with every shot that they have.

Marquis is a very special player and some of our fans are going to get a sharp shock when he leaves and we suddenly have to completely revamp our attack. He's our most valuable player by some distance for me and someone who rightly needs to play every game, start to finish.

Anyone who thinks John hasn't got an edge has forgot strikers in the Dickov years! he gets the chances to miss and never goes hiding when he misses which at most levels means your'll score lots of goals

A mate of mine told me he had a game of snooker with Marquis the other day and asked him if he needed a rest. Marquis apparently said, "I reckon so, it is a bit of a stretch".
