No Blaney, because he’ll be on the bench on Saturday and could get injured playing today

Yes I thought that infact he was there watching the game today.

The score finished 1.   1. with Reives Boocock heading in the equaliser late on. Did not see it as I’d left.

I only saw the second half....including the late equaliser.......I thought Morecambe were much the better side. Not sure if they had more experience players in their team. I was interested in how Alfie Beestin played as I genuinely want him to succeed. Unfortunately he didn’t stand out at all for me.  Wasn’t involved enough and in my eyes didn’t graft to get more involved.

I agree with your opinion we were no better first half. To many players disappointing and as you say Alfie who looks fit and lean didn’t graft enough and did not use his skills to impose himself on the game.

The title of this thread is really very accurate when you look at the team we put out.

Yes hound it’s about progression and what the U23 development should be hopefully finding a gem or gems who could put pressure on the first team.
Now Reives Boocock may fall into that but still U18 so the next year will see how he develops.

I played golf with his dad last weekend and he is hopefull that he will kick on next season.
It was hardly a true second eleven side out there today though.

All the first team squad players and Blaney a part Jones were not used with games we’ve got coming up so it was not a true second 11. But it’s just a term for our development squad I would think.

As a matter of interest, what does a true development team consist of?

Yes, I know it's 11 players and a few subs!

I was very surprised by how much Beestin has gone backwards since last I watched him. Not looking too good for him at the moment. Horton my MotM this afternoon, closely followed by the lb, Smith? After those 2, not much to write about, unfortunately.

Speaking of second team games, I see that Sunderland have put out a very strong side for their EFL Cup game at Bristol Rovers.
They obviously fancy a trip to Wembley.

They’ll be doing well to get to Wembley for the EFL Cup given the final was last week!

I am very surprised nobody has mentioned Jones in goal, who made some good saves, and looked a good player, very composed and alert when he had to be.
There was not a lot between the two sides, although Morecambe  looked to have one or two more experienced players  which makes a big difference.

Horrendous error for their goal, or had you forgot about that.

Alan, the ball was smashed at him from about 8 yards and he made a decent stop but couldn't hold it, hardly an horrendous error.
Much more concerning to me was the way their  forward carried the ball through and our defenders were the wrong side, and didn't have the pace to get back at them, which happened more than once in the game.

From where I was watching, he hesitated before coming off his line and by the time he did, it was too late. You can't criticise the defence without mentioning the midfield, who were out fought and out thought most of the game, leaving defenders exposed all the time.

To be fair, that's the worst I've seen them play! I thought Morecambe were much the quicker side throughout and caused us lots of problems.

A lot of the Morecambe side could be first team players next season, in the conference

Out of all of the clubs at the bottom of League 2 I hope they stop up, quite enjoyed going there apart from having to get back on the bus TWICE when the matches were called off
