R.I.P.

Utter, God-like genius.

For the kids, imagine Louis Tomlinson turning into Sinatra, then Pavarotti, then Stravinsky.

A great voice.
You hear about these singers on the voice and BGT and they can't hold a candle to a lot of the older ones.
Dick Dale died the other day as well what a guitarist. Supposedly Leon Fender gave him a stratocaster he'd just made and laughed when Dale played it upside down being left handed and behind his head. Misirlou anybody?

Had to chuckle at this analogy for “the kids” given one of the guys you mentioned has been dead 10 years, one 20 years and the other almost 50!

Don’t know a great deal about Scott Walker but The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine is one of my wife’s favourite songs. Great voice, RIP.

I assume kids have heard of King Harold.

His collaboration with Jacques Brel was my favourite Scott Walker era. Rather like Bowie, he was a musical chameleon. We have lost a true genius.

I agree TRB. I never tire of hearing Jackie. Love the Alex Harvey version of Next.

Him going from The Walker Brothers who were a high end boy band, to having Mathilde as the opening track on his first solo album is one of the biggest transformations in pop history.

David Bowie was in awe of him in the late 60s and I'm sure that's what influenced his career of regular reincarnation.

And in the 60s Walker was right on the pulse of societal issues. Recording Jacque Brel's "Sons Of..." at the height of the Vietnam War was stark genius. Chokes me up every time I hear it.

Well Billy, we may disagree about some things, but that analysis is brilliant. What a voice that guy had; the Angels will be getting out-sung now.

I've just listened to  "Mathilde" and "Montague Terrace in Blue." It's fair to say the hairs on the back of my neck are standing up.

Long before my time, but I still enjoyed his more out there artistic works. His album with Sunn O))) was something special. Worth a listen if you want something heavy and challenging.

Try "The Electrician" from "Nite Flights" from 1978.

Bowie was definately listening!

First time I heard Bowie properly was Man who sold the world album in about 1970. I recall saying to my then girlfriend that it reminded me of Scott Walker.
He was a groundbreaker for sure.
