Roony rule
« on June 26, 2019, 05:57:41 pm by scawsby steve »
An article in the DFP is saying that the Roony rule will apply to Rovers' manager search.

It looks as though one of Darren Moore, Dino Maamria, Sol Campbell, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, or someone else will have to be interviewed. Assuming of course that some of them have applied.

Where does all this pc nonsense end though?! If this rule comes in , then surely to be fair we'd have to interview a woman , someone from the LBGT community and so on and so on. The world's gone mad, interviews should be based on ability nothing else.

Agreed Andy.
What about a managers religious beliefs too.
To follow the Rooney rule a club might just pay it lip service to abide by it.

If it applies from next season then it shouldn’t apply to our current manager search?

Agreed if you’re good enough it shouldn’t matter what colour, beliefs or disabilities a person may have

Only if they actually apply for the job. The question that should be asked is” What is so attractive about a Championship club who will not invest in the club  and the only money  on Offer  is for keeping them in the League?

You don't get an interview without the required qualifications.

Turn the debate around.

Loads of black blokes playing football over many decades. Loads.

How many black managers? Very few.

All crap? No. Of course not.

So give these candidates visibility in the process. Mind, good candidates.

Is that end of world?

The thing is though CBCB, if clubs don’t want to employ a black manager, for whatever reason, then all they have to do is comply with the rule but then give the job to someone else.
With that in mind, the Rooney rule is a joke.
It is bureaucracy for the sake of it and is unlikely to change much at all.

I agree but how many take their badges and want to go into coaching or management?
Start early and try to get young black players interested in getting their badges and looking to stay in the game. Surely the large percentage of players would have no complaints at these lads coaching given the diversity on the playing sides these days.

That doesn't mean the club can't apply it on their own initiative.

And I'll play devil's advocate too, then.

How many will think "I won't get opportunity so why get my badges?"

We are caught in a vicious circle.   Something has to happen to break it. I don't necessarily agree that the Rooney rule in itself is the solution, but it will facilitate change, albeit with the subtlety of a sledgehammer.

Silent majority said this was only in force from next season

Why don't you quote what I actually said?

What I did say is that it was voted on at the recent EFL AGM in Portugal, which took place a few weeks ago. The resolution said that the Rooney rule would come into force next season. What they mean by next season, I would assume, could be the first game, or, more likely the start of the contractual season, which will be the 1st July.

Why?
I wasn’t suggesting anything derogatory, was just pointing out you stated it would be in force from next season.

I think SM means the coming 19/20 season.. it is otherwise easy to think of “next season” at the moment as 20/21..

I’m not so sure about that IDM.
Most people I know talk about next season as the one starting in August this year.

Now that the transfer window and pre-seasons has started, the coming season may be this rather than next.

It doesn’t matter, just clearing up that this rule starts now..

As if this week I've started referring to 2019/20 as "this season". With pre-season underway, the prior season is completely over with.

Where does the Rooney Rule force you have to have open applications?
