Should we do away with democracy and just have economists running our their country?

A few years ago I spent some time working in Belgium. During this period the country was effectively being run by civil servants. As I recall, elections had taken place the year before with no overall winner. Negotiations to form a coalition were dragging on for over a year so without a leader and government the civil service basically ran the country. From what I remember this didn’t seem to be causing any problems.

The problem is that most of the senior civil servants are rabid remainiacs. Hopefully they will be purged.
