With the amount of attacking we've done down the flanks this season, and all the chances we've created, Mallik Wilks would have been in double figures for goals by now.

There are several players from last season I wish we still had, but no good looking back. We don't have a prolific goal scorer any more. Even if Marquis was still here there is no guarantee he would be as good under Moore as he was under McCann.

No guarantee but my money would be on double figures in 15 league games.
The number of chances we have created this season, Marquis would have been in his element.

No good looking back let’s hope we can get Ennis on the field and sign someone proven in January.

We should not get our hopes up too much for a top signing in January though. No one is out of contract in the middle of the season. Any one decent is already playing for someone.
I do think next summer is when we will be getting what we all want.

I sincerely hope that last sentence is wrong, Campsall.

Take Wilkes back tomorrow, one of the best loan signings we’ve seen.

Him and Herbie last season were a pleasure to watch and two lads we as fans really seemed to bond with and relate to.

So do i but we would have a fee to pay in January if we signed someone who is contracted. If that player was out of contact in the summer & has told his club he won’t be signing a new one then we might be able to persuade his club to take a knock down fee or pay up his existing contract.
There will be a good number of free agents at the end of the season and we will get someone free.
Wages are always going to be the biggest problem. Goal scorers don’t come cheap.

We knew that in the summer, surely, as we got a good price for the one we had!

To me, if we wait until summer, we are basically telling all supporters that we’re not interested in the top 6, because there is no way this team, as it stands, is good enough. We are definitely missing a clinical edge and it simply has to be put right sooner, rather than later.

That’s all well and good but tell me who will be available in January.  Like you i would love it if we could get a proven goal scorer in January but it’s easier said than done.

Looking is one thing, finding is another.

Unless there’s a player DM really wants, who we can prise from his club, I suspect we could see a shuffling of loanees..

But none of us know really, what is going on behind the scenes..

Quite right mate, we might already have someone lined up and ready to join us.

My previous post by the way was to highlight that the club will be looking and that it isn’t the job of the fans to find someone (as Campsall will know quite well enough too).

No it’s not our job hound but we can speculate on what might or might not happen as the case may be.

I am pretty sure the club will be looking and yes it’s possible they might have someone lined up. We will not know the answer to that until after Christmas as it will be kept under wraps.

Let’s hope we are all going to get a fabulous New Years Day present, but i won’t be holding my breath, not because the club are not trying, but because it will be very difficult to bring in the right man in January.

The most likely scenario imo is Sterling does not return and we sign another Premier league or Championship club loanee.

Can’t disagree with you there mushRTID, although I have on other occasions 🤭!

Two players which would walk into this side, Kane alongside Whiteman & Wilks as our No.9.

But Liverpool have ‘bigger plans’ for Herbie, & I can’t in all honesty see Barnsley allowing Malik to come here on loan, even though I don’t think at the present time Malik would be adverse to the idea?

Darren Moore will ultimately decide who, if anyone, comes in January. He & his football reputation will ultimately stand or fall in the decisions he makes whilst he’s with us...that must give him the occasional sleepless night.

It does me, but then my livelihood doesn’t depend on it. I, like you, are ‘merely a supporter’.

I don’t think Wilks is the No9 type at all. He’d be a handful, yes, but imho, he’s not the one. Having said that, in the absence of anyone else, ok. I’d rather have Wilks than anyone we have currently.

Incidentally. On the run up and during the window, would you rather DM stay quiet about any possible signings or, do you think he should go some way to satisfying the thirst for information?

Without doubt the press are going to ask him at every interview.

Personally, I don't think "We are close..." helps anyone.

Kinda disappeared up your own ar**hole with that post Alan. “He’d be a handful (paraphrasing now) but not the No.9 type at all, but imho rather have him than anyone we currently have”.

He’s certainly a handful at this level, as we witnessed all too well last season. Holds up the ball well, strong, draws a foul, pace, a trick a shot.

If only we could have him back it would be a no contest.

But we can only dream because as I’ve posted earlier, it is a none starter.

But nice to imagine.

No, I didn’t disappear up anywhere. I distinctly remember him trying to cover for JM in (at least) one game last season and he was nowhere near as damaging as when played on the right of the 3. Barnsley have tried him there and it hasn’t worked out for him.

That’s where I was coming from. But he’s far, far better than either a Thomas or Bingham, obviously. The trouble is, he’s not our player.

We have now signed someone whose job it is to recruit new players, best to let him and the manager get on with the job now.

Some folk asking if DM has targets ffs.Did he not just say that since Sterling is not progressing he might need to look to bring in another loanee Did he not bring in a guy from CPlalace to train with us with a view to joining in Jan .Did he not say he was going to employ a chief scout .
Either folk are semi interested in the club and don’t bother to follow our news or they are being negative to be perverse .
