ITEN Team of the 2010s: Right Back
« on December 16, 2019, 08:06:23 pm by RoversAlias »
Hi folks,

Thanks to everyone who voted for the Best Goalkeeper of the decade, either on here or on Twitter. No surprise to see that Neil Sullivan has run away with that one and become the first player cemented into our Best XI of the 2010s!

We move swiftly on now to the Full Backs positions. Left Back will be on the way shortly, but here we determine who the greatest Right Back of the last ten years at Doncaster Rovers is. Your choices are:

#1: Craig ALCOCK

Truro-born Alcock was signed by Darren Ferguson in 2015 and was a rare bright spark in our dismal relegation that season. Playing a role in our promotion from League Two the following season, Alcock made 75 appearances in three years for Rovers.

#2: Matty BLAIR

Blair joined in 2016 as a winger but has spent the majority of his three-and-a-half years at the club as a right back, playing an integral role in the 2016-17 promotion and the Play-Off and FA Cup runs last year. 10 goals, 14 assists in 155 games and counting.

#3: James O'CONNOR

Versatile defender JOC was part of Sean O'Driscoll's legendary side, but played 92 games this decade for Rovers notching 3 goals, all in the Championship. A big part of the most successful side the club has seen in 50+ years.

#4: Paul QUINN

Scottish stand-out Quinn signed for Rovers under Dean Saunders and played a big role in the League One title-winning side of 2012/13. He made 80 appearances in two seasons, scoring 3 goals.

Crikey, we’ve struggled for RB’s if were including Alcock.
Personally would have Andy Griffin above him.

Loved Quinn but there’s only one winner in Jimmy

He got a nomination did Alcock, so somebody must think he was up there! I have to say I don't think he was that great but there were few choices to include after O'Connor, Quinn and Blair. And I'd like to have 4 options for each individual position.

I’d have nominated Ryan Mason ahead of Matty Blair at least he’s a defender

I wasn't putting Niall Mason on the poll in a million years.

Why? He was a right back who played quite a lot of games for us. He's equally as deserving of a nomination alongside some of the above names purely based on his footballing ability.

I think we know the reason why RA didn't put Mason on the poll.

Let's avoid going into detail so another thread doesn't dissolve into a slanging match.

Yeah I understand the reason that he hasn't put his name down but I think in terms of playing ability he certainly had done as much as Quinn or Alcock to be merited.
For what it's worth I think JOC runs away with it.
