one for our stats man "Dutch Uncle" across the water here ......................

when (if ever) was the last time Rovers beat the Sundies in the league ??  looks like it's over 70 years from what I can see   hopefully they haven't sacked their manager pre-match.

We are currently above them in the table after 19 (us) or 20 (them) games , the latest in a season we have ever been above them.

In the 4 league matches we have played against Sunderland we have lost all 4

I wasn’t at the game, but I can certainly recall it! I was 11 years old at the time, and had been following the Rovers for a couple of years. At the time, one of my favourite pastimes was going to the old Gaumont cinema every Saturday morning... 4 films shown for 1 shilling, aka as 5p! In an era of very few televisions in so-called working class families, and no Match of the Day until 1964, imagine the feeling when highlights of the Sunderland game were shown, in black and white (!), on the following Saturday at the Gaumont. And when Eddie McMorran, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_McMorran, scored his second goal the whole cinema went beserk.

Happy memories! 🤗

For avoidance of any doubt, we have never beaten (or even drawn against) Sunderland in the League. In fact we have only scored once against them- Steve Burke in a 3-1 defeat at Roker Park on New Year's Day 1988.

We did beat them 2-0 in the Third Round of the FA Cup on 9th January 1954, with two Eddie McMorran goals. Rovers then beat fellow Division Two side Plymouth Argyle 2-0 away in Round 4 before losing to Third Division (South) Leyton Orient 3-1 at Brisbane Road in Round 5.

It wasn't a vintage Sunderland side as they finished 18th in Division One in that 1953-54 season, although a year later they finished Fourth and reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Derek Beaumont went from Askern to that game, still goes to every game, and is hoping to see a long drawn out double of cup and league wins on Sunday.

Can we park this one, at least until AFTER we've beaten them in the league for the first time?

Bit of a poser here when Rovers beat Sunderland in the play-off's or at Wembley whether it counts as breaking the "duck"

or is the O.P. "Quackers"
