Problems ,problems

Although good problems ,how does DM pick a team now .
New players all look good ,I only watched on ifollow but was impressed while Cole after what I'd read about him ,i was a bit unsure but he put his self about and held the ball up well, only time will tell,Ramsey good ,Feji will score plenty ,and the bench Taylor, sheaf ,copps to come back ,problems.
So my team would be .dieng, back four james in ,midfield leave that to DM, forwards leave that to DM aswell

I agree James has played well but Cameron John more than justified his place last night ..though that trip/ tackle on the edge of the box was scarey.

Not for me, I thought he looked shaky and lost for the first hour, didn’t offer any threat going forward and was unsure in possession. Later on he was much better and looked more at home but he offers very little there compared to James for me.

James would get my vote too.
Cameron looked jittery at times especially in the first half, and I'm not convinced about him as a left back.
He did better second half although playing on the 'beach' didn't help!

Overall though, a very enjoyable performance and great to see the new lads do so well. What a debut by young Ramsey! I was straining to see who it was who blasted over the bar from close range in the first half - I realise now it was Jacob but he certainly didn't let that bother him.
He took his two goals superbly well and certainly brought something new to the team.

So going back to the subject: yes, there are problems about who to leave out now, which is a problem DM will be happy to have.

John is an outstanding centre half let’s not forget that. But he’s not a left back. And we’ve a very good left back sat on the bench
John should be out the side now waiting for his opportunity to get back in at centre half

John has improved at left back but I'd love to know what Reece James has done to get dropped.
As for the midfield/attack, wow ! From having bare bones we've got ridiculous options all of a sudden. Add to the signings that Gomez all of a sudden looks a player too & I'm glad I'm not having to choose who misses out.
Ding ding, all aboard !

It’s only a problem on here tho!
We, the fans will make it a problem if we can, and if we can’t we will anyway ....

Listening to DM and young Jacob I get the feeling that a fair bit of pre match research happens and DM works out what players are well suited for the next game.....it’s not the infamous “ rotation”  and it’s not a
“ he did well so should keep the shirt”  thing either...

More a horses for courses system that keeps all the squad on its toes ...

This is the first time I have felt that all the hard work put into creating chances is actually going to pay off....

Saturday will answer that question. Because James should be starting against Rochdale at home if it’s horses for courses

Cameron John is a decent central defender definitely not a left back.

In that position Reece James links up well with Sadlier as I’m sure he would with Ennis should DM continue to play Niall in that wider left hand side.

Reece has better control with the ball at his feet than Cameron, can get past players with his pace & puts in plenty of crosses. My opinion of course.

Cameron John was more suited to that pitch and to Tranmere’s style yesterday. It worked well and hats off to DM for doing that.

Agreed though I’d like to see James back in the side this Saturday.

Cameron John reminds me a lot of George Friend. Clearly very talented and capable Centre Back, but keeps getting put at left back where he doesn't fit.

Yet Friend played most of his career at left back.

I don't think we should get too hung up on this and keep going around in circles. DM sees the players day in, day out so he may see things differently.

For those who are concerned that John is getting preferential treatment due to the terms of his loan, then why not contact Liam Hoden who encourages fans to ask those kind of questions so he can put it to DM?

Luckily nothing came of it, But I think that is the first time I have seen a player nut megged three times in a game by the same player. The last time near the end John fouled the player as he went around him on the edge of the box, and another yard in from the touch line would have resulted in a penalty.
Not good when taken on down the line.

My concern, Baz is that James gets fed up by the end of the season & we lose a very good left back by playing a loan in front of him.
I've gotta say that DM gets most things right & I trust him, it would be a shame if that's how it pans out though imo.

I would think James would understand the squad thing and would be fighting for his place..

John is ideal at CB but at the moment that would mean the bench, but I could see James getting a start on Saturday for his attacking prowess too..

Well,if all we got to moan about is whether James or John should be picked at left back, then we should be grateful how well off we are.If someone was picking Nic Priet, before James, then I'd understand it!

Can make a case for John playing there v Fleetwood and Tramere because of conditions and opposition playing style John would clearly give us extra at set plays. As Dickos says that wouldn't be the case v Rochdale where James should really be starting. If he doesn't then imo it's a case of favoritism for loanees who have to be fitted regardless of suitability. As others have said could risk upsetting a very good contracted player who most of us want to see play for us in the future.

The fact that this is the only gripe with our selection and performance says it all we've now a squad where we're worried about who misses out when we've won 3-0! A big turn around from worrying who starts over Bingham/Thomas

You are worrying about nothing imo.

He will have played John again as Tranmere had 3 big lads in a 3 up front.
Vaughan on the Right and CJ would be better suited to the Ariel bombardment that he was expecting and it was a correct decision as that’s what they did. Launch it into the front 3.

DM knows exactly what he is doing & that’s why he is manager and we are not.

Can’t see that Wolves would tell DM that CJ has to start.  There is no way you can run a team that way being dictated to as who plays and who doesn’t. Not a chance imo.
May as well bring back Ken Richardson if that’s the case. Heaven help us.

How on earth do you get to "may as well bring Richardson back" from my post?
& I never suggested that John has to play regardless, blimey no wonder things spiral out of control on here.
I was merely suggesting that James might not be too pleased about being benched given his form.

I think Johns a far more physical player than James and last night Tranmere's forwards certainly played a physical game which probably Warranted his selection in that position last night.
