A question about the team last night?
« on February 05, 2020, 07:11:12 pm by selby »
Was it the youngest we have fielded in the first team? the average age looked very young. Perhaps the stato's  on here have some idea.

Yes we should consider not playing next Tuesday, 3 games in 8 days is apparently not good for young players welfare, I’m sure our opponents next Tueday would understand

I reckon our average was about 23. There was only one teenager out there last night and half the team must be 24/25 in Halliday, Dieng, Whiteman, Sadlier, Wright, Cole & Anderson. A very young team but doubt it’s anywhere close to what Bolton were playing.

Think we should call it off at 6-30 on Tues eve.
Just gives us home fans ( well most ) enough time not to set off. Also guarantees all the smug Bolton fans that thought their club did no wrong in August get their just desserts.

Some of the lads that played in the Richardson era were young , as well as the Snodin  team, I just wondered how the team last night compared with the teams in the past.

We won promotion in 1981 with two 17-year-olds, two 19-year-olds and three 21-year-olds among the 11 highest appearance makers.
But they had experienced players like Nimmo, Little and Warboys around them.
About a dozen teenagers made first team appearances in the 1997-98 season - although not at the same time.
But that was a season less about football and more about the spite of a well known crook.

LS, my memory is as you describe those teams, we have had a number of young players  in teams in the past, but always with a number of experienced players.
We touched on the subject on the bus returning last night, and the fact we had no long in the tooth players on show last night got me wondering if it was anywhere near the youngest we have ever fielded.
Perhaps someone as knowledgeable as Dutch will know the answer if we are lucky enough for him to come across this thread.
