A much needed goodwill deed deserved of telling.
« on March 24, 2020, 08:04:37 pm by Colin C No.3 »
I criticised ‘this generations’ ability to deal with this crisis comparing it ill favourably to the spirit shown by the generation of the early 40’s.

I tell this account with a gladdened heart & with my tail happily tucked beneath my legs.

My wife, now retired, worked in the NHS for many years & naturally still has friends who are also retired from the NHS but also some who still work at the ‘cliff face’.

She received a text tonight from an ex colleague who was a Senior Nurse & has been asked back to commission a 52 bed Covid ward in Wigan.

She accepted & texted my wife this evening with something that happened today which both of them have allowed me to share because of its sentiment.

A market trader came to the hospital this afternoon with “Cases & cases of market produce including 100’s of eggs” , which he said he would normally be delivering to schools but he wanted it to go to the NHS staff at the hospital.

That does your heart good.

Omelette’s tonight in my wife’s pals house apparently!

Lovely story.

I heard something similar on the radio today.

A farmer who rents out 20 acres of land to a tenant who grows potatoes. The tenant said that the potatoes would be ruined by the bad weather over the winter and asked the farmer just to plough them back into the ground.

Farmer instead picked them all, bagged them up and gave them away to whoever wanted to come and collect them.

I hope that some more local folk feel the same. I would rather pay a bit more to keep a local shop open than save £5/£10 and the money go to Currys. I just hope that they can weather the storm.

The message from them says until the shops allowed to reopen  no penalties no interest

A message to our customers

Good evening. As you are aware, all non essential shops and businesses are required to close immediately due to the continued threat of Corona virus to human life.

These are worrying times for all members of our community. We must try to support each other in the best way we know how. This includes strictly following our governments instructions.

On top of the current worries, many of you may have concerns regarding income and financial difficulties.

In light of this I have decided to freeze all customer accounts until these restrictions are lifted. This means that NO PAYMENTS will be taken from customer accounts until this lockdown is lifted and the shop reopens. We are effectively pausing your payments. You will not receive any penalties or interest in this time. You will simply restart your normal payments in 3 weeks or so. Any customers facing futher payment difficulties after this time, please don't hesitate to contact us. We will do all we can to help.

We hope this helps in some way.

If any guidance is given on our ability to provide essential items (ie fridges) to vulnerable customers, we will update you asap

Thank you for your loyal custom. Please stay safe and share this so it reaches as many of our customers as possible.

Michael Boylan
