IDM, I find the head up display quite useful.
In say, a 30 mph area, if I stray to 31 the display flashes and warns me to slow down.
I don’t have to even glance at the instrument panel.
Also, on the odd occasion that I am driving in an unfamiliar area and been in the situation where I am unsure what the speed limit is, the heads up display notifies me.

HUD are designed for fast jet aircraft where even a split second distraction to look at the instrument panel can be deadly, especially at low level.

Bloody hell 84 k in an 80 k is a bit punitive (to say the least)

Do they not operate the 10% + "a bit" rule ? Looks like they dont
No lee way in France of you are 1kms or more over the limit you are done ss far as I am aware

Some time ago I attended a speed awareness course where the person taking the course asked everyone what they thought was the most effective way to stop people speeding. I replied that for me the best thing to slow me down were the speed signs at the side of the road in either red or green to show you your speed and whether you was above or below the limit. The instructor said yes I agree. Unfortunately for him however one of the other attendees then said. So if they are so effective why not put in more of them and not have so many sneeky speed cameras. Is it to do with raising revenue by any chance? I have to admit to feeling a bit sorry for him at that point.
