Question for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
« on June 21, 2020, 03:10:06 pm by phil old leake »
Watched Man Utd other night

Another poor performance by David de Gea. In my view he’s no longer good enough

If I was manager I’d let him go and next season I’d start with Henderson who has more than proved himself as a top premiership keeper

Just as Henderson lets in a poor one at the near post.... Ignoring Stevens' error DH wasn't even set for it.

I don't think this is as clear cut as social media are making it out. If we're judging DDG by previous years then yes he's not at those levels but sometimes CV's and experience count, especially when a team is rebuilding. If I were OGS I'd have Henderson at Sheff Utd for another season.

Edit - on a bit of a tangent, how bad are Sheff Utd this week? Given the manager they have and this perceived work ethic everyone bleats on about I would have thought they'd be one of the teams to come out on fire.

Two goals Henderson could have done better with today. It's very easy for people to say De Gea makes errors so play Henderson instead, but the reality is DDG is an experienced, world class goalkeeper who does an awful lot of good as well.

De Gea is a far better goalkeeper than Henderson, I don’t buy into all this about Henderson being the English keeper, Pickford,Pope and even Heaton are better. Henderson always seems to step back half a pace when he sets himself nearly all other go forwards

De Gea has definitely regressed over the last couple of seasons but it’s probably still a bit premature to say Henderson is better.

Completely disagree about Pickford, though - I think he’s really overrated.

Pickford is a far better keeper than Henderson, people on here take more notice of Henderson because he’s on loan from Man Utd and he’s playing for a local side

Pickford has been England’s number one for about three years including at the World Cup. He’s hardly flying under the radar!

There must be some stats on who overall is performing better?  All keepers will make errors.  You can't knock who good Henderson has done at the teams he's played at, whether that makes him better than De Gea is another matter, but little doubt one is going one direction, the other the opposite.  De Gea seems to struggle when he hits bad form, almost a confidence issue which must be huge for keepers.  We saw that with Etheridge here who never really recovered from one bad game.  The best at dealing with that was Sullivan, it never really fazed him if he made a mistake and he even he cost us points a few times (Cardiff away springs to mind).

This isn’t true.

Re Sheffield United. They play a high tempo game and I guess they have not had enough time to get the players up to performing at that level yet. Bielsa's methods are all focused on high work rate and Leeds came up short too (although in their case thinking that Bamford is a goalscorer doesn't help.)

At least Leeds have time to get on track, but I think in taking one point from two winnable games the Blades may have missed the boat as regards Europe.

Don't use that goal Twitter site or the Irish sun. Both reporting Man Utd and Chelsea in a bidding war for Henderson 😂😂
