Well, I’m excited.
« on March 01, 2021, 09:38:28 pm by PDX_Rover »
We have somebody in charge who is Doncaster born and bred, reads the game very well, and who is respected.

If we wanted continuity, we have it. Butler knows, the club, the players, the potential. He’s a winner. I can’t wait for tomorrow’s game.

We have a good set of players and fresh impetus. Get Copps installed as assistant.

Come on. RTID.

I feel the same way PDX. Just hope we perform well tomorrow, even if we don’t win.

PDX, I am looking forward to the Portsmouth game much more now.
Andy will get the lads fired up for sure and I’m expecting an improved performance.

We're very lucky to have Butts, ready made to keep some continuity at the club
Looking forward to the game tomorrow even more now, but at the same time even more frustrated not to be in the ground for a Rovers love-in.

Cops as assistant? No thanks.

No desire. No training. No experience.

I can’t fathom if you’re joking or not Bob mate. From a motivational standpoint, Copps is inspiring I reckon. Technically he’s very strong. Listening to him commentate recently shed a new light on him for me. He read the game incredibly well and I think he would add great value in some senior capacity.

I think Bob has a point though, in that Copps has said himself he doesn't have the hunger to go into coaching or management. I think he's been pretty clear that he wants to focus on his family and his numerous business ventures when he stops playing.

I think it's something people are pinning on him more than something he actually wants for himself.

He is articulate and knows the game though. I'm sure he would offer plenty but he doesn't seem to want to, which is fair.

Butler's first go as men's game manager though so could probably do with a more experienced assistant than Copps. He's done well with Buxton aswell, so there's probably a job for him too.

Sorry Mark!

I agree he could be a n asset. But we risk sentimentality overriding judgement by putting him in the role right now. I believe (but I might be wrong!) that he has said he's not interested, he has no training, he has no experience. What would we be getting?

Yes, I am also looking forward to the game tomorrow, AB should pick himself to play so that he can take out Marquis and Harness out as his swan song and them sub himself at half time with his yellow card in his pocket.

Coppinger confirmed in a Talksport interview, the day before the Hull game, that he has not started, and has no intention of starting his coaching badges. Due to that, I don't see how he'd ever become assistant.

Copps has openly said he's looking forward to spending time with his family after this season, & he feels he owes em as much.
Obviously anything can happen in football but I can't see it, he's got plenty of other stuff on the go by the sound of it.
I'm sure he'll have an input for the rest of this season though, probably get more game time too I reckon.

Beggars belief really that folk keep putting Copps name forward for manager/coach. Clearly have not listened to a word he's said over the last 5 years about having no desire to go into this side of the game.

Of course, we'd like to think he has a wealth of experience he can bring to the roles but there's the small matter of wanting to do it, and gaining the right qualifications to enable him to do it.

If AB feels he needs Copps input, you'd like to think Copps would be willing to support him, and he said as much in yesterday's interview.

Will be interesting who Butler uses as his assistant. I've not heard him say anything specific but, it's a very important role even with the relatively short period to the end of the season.

We've had the secret footballer and I think in Copps we have the reluctant footballer. Don't think he was ever that bothered and it's mentally probably why he's endured for so long. He doesn't live and breath the game, feels lucky and appreciates it??
Not a coach could imagine him as a sports physiologist??

I'd agree with that. I've seen his name mentioned a few times on here over the last few days because this really does give me the vibes of Dave Penney's appointment all those years ago. I get that he wasn't from Doncaster but he was a down to earth local bloke who seemed to really engage with the fans and get the players fired up and playing exciting football. When him and Atkins got the caretaker role to the end of the season in 2000 culminating in the Endsleigh win the buzz around the club was fantastic. If we ignore the couple of Steve Wignall years in between him getting the job full time, DP's appointment brought about a period at Doncaster that remains my most enjoyable and memorable period of supporting the club. No pressure Butts......

I wonder if Butler is still manager for next season whether we may yet see Copps in the red and white again. Their seems to be great deal of respect for each other.

Wishful thinking i suspect. Pretty sure he is committed to finishing after this season ends.

Life will go on without Copps.  We will all miss him but no one can play forever. Not even Copps.

Wishful thinking on my part re: Copps. I’m not ready to say goodbye yet, selfishly.

Style of play would have largely still been Moore's aswell. Only bits Butler would have made is subs and some in game tweaks.
